Happy Sunday to all of our travel friends, both near and far! Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, as well, so we’re passing them along.
- The first post I want to share this week is one by Ed from Pizza in Motion. It’s hard to lose someone you know and the points and miles community is going through that at this moment. Ed is trying to make some good out of the situation by shining light on the hidden problem of mental illness. I encourage you to make a donation to NAMI or just call someone you know who just might need to hear a friendly voice asking them how they are doing.
- Lucky wrote on One Mile at a Time about wide-open space on Aer Lingus business class from the US to Europe. I usually don’t pay attention to award space availability but we used our United MileagePlus points to fly from Orlando to London via Dublin. It was a great excuse to schedule an 8-hour layover and head into the city for lunch.
- Everyone is writing about coronavirus. Even I felt the need to give my 2 cents about the topic. While many of the posts are related to changes in travel plans, Gary wrote on View From the Wing about what he’s doing to prepare on the homefront, which is good advice for everyone.
- Sebastian from Loyalty Lobby writes about the new Berlin Airport and how it’s due to open (finally) in the end of October 2020. To learn more about the airport, and it’s troubled history, check out this post.
- Greg writes on Frequent Miler about Hyatt hotels are allowing you to cast Netflix and Hulu from your phone to the in-room TV. While this is nice, I was able to log into my Netflix account from the TV at a Fairfield Inn & Suites back in 2017.
- Chris from Rene’s Points tried to get a retention offer for his AMEX Platinum card before canceling it for good. I’ll admit it’s a hard card to let go of but I finally was able to cut the cord and ditch the $550 annual fee.
- London is admittedly a difficult town to pick a hotel. While there are many choices, they’re often expensive no matter if you’re using points or cash. We loved our stay at the Renaissance St. Pancras where we upgraded to a suite but what if you need a room with three beds? Travel Update features a post about what might be the best value room in all of London.
- To bookend this week’s post, I need to mention this post from Bald Thoughts. Lee has picked Nashville as his new hometown and was a witness to the damage caused by the tornadoes that ripped through the area. To help the recovery, he’s donating 100% of the money he gets from the website and links to charity. Our host, BoardingArea, has offered to match all of that affiliate income earned in March.
We’ve written before about why you should try to visit cities after they’ve suffered a natural disaster. While the situation right now might cause you not to want to visit anywhere, once everything is normalized, I’d put Nashville on the list of places to visit.
