Here’s Why it’s Taken Berlin Brandenburg Airport NINE YEARS To Finally Have An Opening Date

by SharonKurheg

If you’re a regular reader of Boarding Area, you probably saw a lot of bloggers write in the past week or so that, at long last, Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) finally has an opening date: October 31, 2020. This after a nearly nine-year delay, and with a budget that ballooned to over three times what was originally planned.

How and why a modern, $8.5 billion dollar airport took so long to finally open (if it actually opens – there are still months between now and then) is a story of bad planning, bad work, bad luck, and a whole lot more badness. Take a look…

So what do you think? Will BER open on Halloween 2020, or will it get delayed again? I’m voting on the latter, personally…

The new airport has a “hangover” from the former DDR! It’s as if the former communist government is in charge of the project!

Will the “new” airport open on time – no.

They’ve “finally” gotten an opening date LOL. Getting an opening date has never been the issue – they’ve announced lots and lots of opening dates. The issue is all of them have been pushed back. So unless the airport actually opens on the announced opening date, this can’t be taken very seriously.
