Happy Wednesday to all of our travel friends, both near and far. Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, as well, so we’re passing them along.
- Coronavirus has changed almost everything about travel. That includes some very unique promotions targeted at those who are worried about traveling during a global pandemic. We wrote about the airline that would pay passengers if they tested positive for COVID-19 after a flight. One nation is taking it a step further, offering to pay for your costs of quarantine if you test positive while on vacation.
- It wasn’t that long ago that we were discussing the end of single-use toiletries in hotels. New York City was considering a flat out ban on them in favor of bulk dispensers. In this new world where individual use containers are no longer frowned upon, might some hotel chains reconsider their ban on those little soaps and shampoo bottles?
- When it comes to US airlines with unique routes, Frontier is in the front of the pack. Not being afraid to launch a 3x weekly route between random cites, they’ve built up quite a unique route network. We’ve taken advantage of their non-stop routes from MCO to MSY, TYS and AUS, even trying out a trip in the nice seats with THE WORKS package. Frontier also isn’t afraid to ditch a route if it has a 3% load factor, even if the city they’re flying to waived all of the landing fees and was the one to pay the entire cost of staff the airport and marketing the route.
- Unlike other airlines, Delta has promised to fly planes 1/2 full to help with social distancing onboard. This might be leading to them raising prices due to flights being at capacity and not being able to add more flights to the schedule fast enough. Empty seats and social distancing isn’t a concern with Delta’s partner KLM, as Gilbert from God Save The Points found out on an almost full flight from New York to The Netherlands.
- Wyndham Rewards and Choice Privileges were the two hotel loyalty programs that didn’t extend their points expiration policies past May. Eventually, Wyndham updated their policy and extended points until the end of September. Choice Hotels waited until almost the end of May to make an announcement when they finally extended the expiration date of Choice points until the end of 2020.
- While the Alaska cruise season for 2020 has been canceled for all of the large ships, that doesn’t mean you can’t visit. Alaska is opening up to visitors, but you have to test negative for coronavirus. There seems to be plenty of “what ifs” in this policy but if you’re willing to take the chance you’ll remain virus-free, the state is yours to explore.
- You can fall deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole known as YouTube, if you’re not careful. Anyway, I found this video in one of those rabbit holes, and though it was very interesting. Pilot Answer 50 Most Googled Passenger Questions.
