Hilton Honors has a feature that doesn’t get much attention—but it can make a big difference when you’re trying to book an award stay.
If you’ve ever collected points across multiple accounts—whether with a spouse, partner, or even just over time—you’ve probably run into the same issue. You’re close to booking an award stay, but your points are split between accounts and just short of what you need.
Some programs make this difficult (or expensive) to fix.
Hilton doesn’t.
The Problem: Points Spread Across Multiple Accounts
It’s common for travelers to earn points in more than one Hilton Honors account. Maybe you and your partner both have cobranded credit cards. Maybe you’ve earned points from separate stays, promotions, or past trips.
The problem comes when you want to redeem those points.
Unlike airline programs that allow easy household balances—or others that restrict transfers—having points split between accounts can make it harder to book an award stay, even when you technically have enough points combined.
That’s where Hilton’s transfer feature comes in.
Hilton Honors Lets You Transfer Points—For Free
Hilton allows members to transfer or pool points with other members—and there’s no fee to do it.
You can transfer points in increments of 1,000, with a limit of 500,000 points sent and 2,000,000 received per year. Each account can make up to six transfers and six pooling transactions annually.
To complete a transfer, you just need the recipient’s name, email address, and Hilton Honors number.
Here’s the official Hilton page with all the details:

In practice, transferring points is quick and straightforward. In most cases, the points show up almost instantly in the recipient’s account.

Why This Feature Is More Useful Than It Seems
This might sound like a small perk, but it can be surprisingly valuable.
For example, if you’re just short of an award booking, transferring a few thousand points can save you from:
- Buying points at a poor value
- Paying cash for a stay you could otherwise book with points
- Letting points sit unused in a separate account
It also works well for couples or families who earn points separately but want to redeem them together.
Compared to programs like Marriott, which have more restrictions or fees tied to transfers, Hilton’s approach is refreshingly flexible.
Final Thought
Just because you can book a stay with points doesn’t always mean you should—but having the flexibility to combine points between accounts gives you more options when you need them.
Hilton’s free point transfer and pooling feature is one of those benefits that doesn’t get much attention—but once you use it, you’ll wonder why every program doesn’t work this way.
If you regularly earn Hilton points across multiple accounts, this is an easy way to make sure they don’t go to waste.
