Buc-ee’s has developed something of a cult following over the years.
For more than three decades, the beloved travel center chain was found only in Texas. But since expanding beyond the Lone Star State in 2018, Buc-ee’s has steadily spread across the South and beyond, with one or more stores now located in Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Along the way, they’ve won over travelers with its famously clean restrooms, barbecue, jerky, fudge and seemingly endless selection of snacks and merchandise.
And it’s not done yet.
There are several states that will most likely never get a Buc-ee’s. The reasoning for that varies from location (think replenishment of warehouses if you’re a state that’s not in the continental U.S.) to low population levels to state policies or business considerations that may not be in line with Buc-ee’s business model.
However there are plenty of states where a Buc-ee’s is possible in the future and, in fact, a few lucky states will be getting their first Buc-ee’s in the next couple of years.
While not every opening has a firm date yet, the company recently told USA Today that these are the next 15 Buc-ee’s locations currently planned. The ones in boldface are states where the chain will be making its debut:
2026:
- San Marcos, Texas: August 12
- Benton, Arkansas: August 17
- Murfreesboro, Tennessee: November 16
2027:
- Ruston, Louisiana
- Kansas City, Kansas
- Gallaway, Tennessee
- St. Lucie, Florida
- Boerne, Texas
- Monroe County, Georgia
2028:
- Mebane, North Carolina
- Lafayette, Louisiana
2029 through 2031:
- Ocala, Florida, 2029
- West Memphis, Arkansas, 2029
- Oak Grove, Kentucky, 2029
- Hardeeville, South Carolina, 2031
Buc-ee’s currently has 56 locations. The 15 that will open in the next few years will bring the count up to 71, which will be located in 17 different states.
Open 24/7, 365 per year, Buc-ee’s is well known for its clean restrooms and cheaper gas prices, along with its BBQ, baked goods, jerky, fudge, outdoor gear, home decor, packaged foods, cold beverages, and more.
Although opening dates can always change as construction projects move forward, one thing is clear: Buc-ee’s has no plans to slow its expansion anytime soon.
For fans, that’s welcome news. And for travelers in states that still don’t have a Buc-ee’s, there’s always hope that the next round of announcements might finally put one a little closer to home.
Until then, road-trippers will just have to keep making the occasional detour for Beaver Nuggets, brisket sandwiches and one of the cleanest restrooms in America.
