United Keeps Reminding Me Why We Will Never Fly With Them Again

by joeheg

If there’s one thing that hasn’t changed because of the coronavirus global pandemic, it’s my general disdain for United Airlines. The last time I flew on a United plane was back in 2017.  I could no longer support the way management was running the airline. Unfortunately, I still had a stash of United miles which I needed to find a use for.

In January 2020, I found flights from Osaka, Japan to Seattle on ANA Business Class for 80,000 miles each. Our trip was supposed to be in two weeks, so it’s no surprise that I needed to cancel that flight. United made it easy to redeposit the miles back into my account.

I now have doubts if I’ll be able to rebook that flight for the same number of miles when we’re able to visit Japan, hopefully at the end of 2021. Thanks to posts from  Live and Let’s Fly and One Mile At A Time, we know that United has increased the number of miles it takes to book award tickets with partner airlines. Since United has done away with award charts, nothing stops them from making arbitrary changes to award ticket prices, even in the midst of a global travel slowdown.

All I have to say to United is, “Really United? Really?”

You are upset because during a pandemic when airlines are fighting for survival you can’t get a “deal” on an award ticket? First world problems for someone that is out of touch with reality.

Maybe you’re being a little harsh. After all it’s not like Kirby The Soulless Bean Counter (bless his heart) did this while United is desperate seeking to incentivize loyal customers to fly with them and they’re begging for another government handout that won’t help employees much but will sure make shareholders happy. Oh wait…

What a completely ridiculous “article”. I put that in quotes as there’s nothing of substance to call an article. It’s just a complaint about something United has done that every other major carrier has also done. Big deal. You booked a ticket, canceled it, and now the price has (or maybe hasn’t) changed. Grow up.

United keeps reinforcing the idea that investing anything with them is a poor investment unlikely to yield anything better than resentment.Continuously begging for engagement, offering so called sales and bonuses but then diminishing rewards tied to them does nothing for continued loyalty.

United seems to be engaging in a con games and that usually doesn’t end well, Their demise would mean the lose of my current investment in money, mileage, and lifetime status, Even sadder, would be seeing people lose their jobs,

Use your miles to book a hotel… I’m sure your new airline(s) will get you where you wanna go…

Look, airlines and the rest of travel are changing… A reasonable person can not expect a flight to be the same amount 12+ months later. It MIGHT Be more, it MIGHT be less or it COULD be the same.

It’s true with airlines, hotels, cars… pretty much all business. Your hatred for United airlines seems to have fogged your understanding of how business around the world work. Sure, they changed how their award charts work, but so have other airlines.

I agree with others that you’re whining about nothing. This is a pandemic and airlines and employees are fighting for survival and you complain about not getting a good deal…wow.
