JetBlue Announces Flights To A Second London Airport

JetBlue’s expansion into the U.K. has been something of a rollercoaster ride. There were cheers of happiness when the airline first announced its plans to fly into England. Then Covid happened and they said starting the flights would be delayed.

Covid or no Covid, they were initially still a little coy about which airport they were going to fly into (to be fair, it sounded like they really weren’t sure). But by the fall of 2020, they finally said they were able to secure London Heathrow.

JetBlue’s flights between there and New York-JFK finally launched in August, 2021. But now there’s even more good news – they’re also going to start flying from JFK to London Gatwick!

The flights to London Gatwick will begin on September 29th. They’ll initially be scheduled four times per week but will increase to daily flights in November.

Prices at the time of this writing start at $440 per person in October and $381 from November onward, but then increase to $501 and higher during the summer months.

As per Forbes, JetBlue says its multi-airport London strategy is timed “for the long-awaited easing of U.S. entry requirements for travelers from the U.K. and other European destinations.”

“With a 500% increase in JetBlue’s U.K. bookings following news of easing U.S. entry requirements for international travelers, it’s clear there is significant pent-up demand for travel between our two countries. Our Gatwick launch is well-timed to meet the growing number of customers returning to the skies,” said Joanna Geraghty, president and chief operating officer of JetBlue.

This flight will be the only one that flies nonstop between the U.S. and London Gatwick.

Plans for continued expansion, from Boston Logan to the U.K., are still on course to start next summer.
