At one time considered one of the busiest but least efficient airports in the country, John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) is in the middle of a $13 billion renovation that was first announced in 2018. When completed, the multi-year makeover will include the addition of two new terminals, plus better security, runways and ground transportation, which will increase capacity by at least 15,000,000 passengers per year.
JFK recently announced the 3 anchor airlines that had been selected for one of the new terminals, aptly named New Terminal One (NTO)): Air France, Etihad Airways and LOT Polish Airlines.
In a press release, LOT considered the selection to be a special recognition, Rafał Milczarski, CEO & President of the Management Board, LOT Polish Airlines, said:
Our presence in New York dates back to 1973. It is no coincidence that the flight number from JFK to Warsaw is LO007. The management of the New York facility solicited this designator code to commemorate the movie “Live and Let Die” which was released that summer and starred legendary Roger Moore as Agent 007. For almost 50 years, we have been connecting people between Europe and this vibrant metropolis. Today, LOT is proud to be a major carrier at this state-of-the-art terminal. It is also a tribute to LOT Polish Airlines for its nearly 50 years of presence in New York. I would like to thank my team and our partners at NTO for their commitment and cooperation. Being among such an elite group of major carriers is a perfect start to another half-century of our New York adventure
About New Terminal One
Last month, Governor Hochul announced that construction of the yet-to-be-built 72,000+ square foot facility would begin this summer.
Once completed, New Terminal One will “reimagine the international passenger experience at John F. Kennedy International Airport while creating opportunities for local, minority and women-owned business enterprises (MWBE) and service-disabled veteran-owned businesses (SDVOB).”
NTO will be a 23-gate, state-of-the-art terminal. Sustainably designed and future focused, the terminal will feature expansive, naturally lit, public spaces, cutting edge technology, and an array of amenities, all designed to enhance the customer experience and compete with some of the highest-rated airport terminals in the world. With more than 300,000 square feet of dining, retail, lounges, and recreational space, NTO will offer passengers a uniquely New York sense of place, with a Queens (JFK is in Queens, one of the 5 boroughs of NYC) flavor.
