Some people just shouldn’t be travel planners.
Kylie Keefe was going on vacation in the Adirondacks with her father JJ, step-mom Erika, brother Aiden, and the family’s 2 Labradoodles. Aiden was going to go to St. Lawrence University in Canton NY, about an hour away, so the foursome (well, sextet, with the dogs), were making it a family trip from their home in Massachusetts.
They decided to stay in the Adirondacks for two nights. JJ was in charge of making reservations. Unfortunately, the local Best Western was full, so JJ turned to VBRO, where he found a listing for a tiny house with a “queen bed in the loft and 2 sleep chairs downstairs.”
From VBRO:
The tiny house had three 5-star ratings in the short time it had been listed. At an average of $88 per night, JJ thought that would be perfect for the 4 of them for 2 nights, right?
Wrong. Very, very wrong.
This tiny house was TINY. Like, 240 square feet tiny. A typical 2 or 3-star hotel room is usually at least 300 square feet. More, if it has 2 beds in it. Those 60+ feet would make all the difference in the world.
So they get to their accommodations, and the younger 2 Keefes just LOSE IT. Here’s Kylie’s TikTok of the first time she and Aiden see the house (Heads up: NSFW – adult language).
@kyliekeefe2 so my dad rented this Airbnb for four people and 2 dogs for two nights #fyp #airbnb #tinyhome
The video has millions upon millions of views and over 31 thousand people commented. LOTS of them wanted a tour of the house; Erika was happy to oblige.
@kyliekeefe2 Reply to @sophia.desousa here is your long awaited tour of the tiny home from my stepmom
Meanwhile, a Hilton representative somehow got wind of this, and offered the Keefes a room at a local Hilton Garden Inn.
@kyliekeefe2 #greenscreen @hilton i love you
Kylie and Aiden stayed there while Erika and JJ and the dogs made do in the tiny house. Here’s her video of the Hilton property (they even left her a bottle of champagne!):
@kyliekeefe2 please watch the whole thing i truly don’t think It will disappoint you. #hilton #hiltonhotel #tinyhome #fyp
It didn’t end there, though. Airbnb also gave Kylie a $500 credit – just because, LOL!
@kyliekeefe2 #greenscreen I’d never cheat on @hilton but @airbnb I’d give you a big kiss
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!
The story, of course, got a lot of publicity. One version of it, in particular, was from Insider. They contacted the tiny house’s owner, Courtney Chichester. SHE told Insider that the family booked the home for only 2 adults, not 4, and they didn’t mention any (fully grown) children or the labradoodles. She also made her own video to prove as such:
@acltinyhouses #duet with @kyliekeefe2 #airbnbtinyhome#vrbotinyhome#2guestsnot4#enjoythetour @kyliekeefe2
Kylie replied back on her TikTok that JJ had said 4 people were staying there:
@kyliekeefe2 Reply to @fe616 stop gaslighting me
No response from Chichester, or VBRO for that matter. However the listing now says that the space can hold 3 adults and dogs are OK. So there ya go.
But yeah – some people should not have the responsibility of making hotel reservations. 😉
