Optical Illusion: Ad For Hotel’s In-Room Safe, Or Hidden Innuendo?

by SharonKurheg

If you’re on the internet often enough, you’ll come across all sorts of optical illusions. Even if your main “thing” on the ‘net is travel, there are plenty of optical illusions to keep someone busy.

Case in point, the town of Ísafjörður, Iceland painted a crosswalk to look 3D in an attempt to slow down speeding cars.

This hotel in Germany uses a carpet printed with an optical illusion that prevents guests from running in the hallway:
And let’s not even get into how many people have “held up” the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Eiffel Tower, Great Pyramids, etc.

There are some optical illusions, granted non-travel ones, where you’ll see a photo or drawing one way, but if you shift your eyes, you’ll see them another way. The “young lady or old woman” optical illusion, there the young lady’s chin can also be seen as the old woman’s nose, is a prime example of that.

Or if you see two faces or a goblet.

And then there was the advertisement that a hotel chain had at their facilities several years back:

In-Room Safe Available
“Enjoy Peace of Mind”
Inquire at front desk for details

We’ve already told you why you probably shouldn’t put anything of value in your in-room hotel safe. But that’s neither here nor there. Anyway, it’s not so much the writing on the ad as much as the accompanying illustration:

Just someone quietly reading a book while seated in a chair, right? Enjoying their peace of mind, I guess. Or, if you shift your eyes, that book MIIIIIGHT become the head and ponytail of a woman who’s…um…doing something else. Definitely not reading a book. And I suspect the person may not be enjoying just peace of mind, either.

Anyway, pictures of this ad have been floating around the internet since at least 2012. The phone number on the bottom, (800) 363-6400, is connected to a small chain of Canadian hotels, all in the greater Toronto area, called Monte Carlo Inns. The chain got its start in 1985, and they pride themselves on their reputation of being, “Your Home Away From Home™.” I’ll stop now because really, you can write your own jokes from here on in. 😉

I don’t know if they’re still using the ad or not.

Sure. If she’s sucking his appendix out.

Maybe there’s a medical condition we’re not aware of… 😉

Simply a typo. It should have read: Enjoy Piece of Mind.

And Mr. Mind certainly does not mind!
