It’s been a while since I visited the SkyClub at Orlando Airport. There are several reasons for this. First, club access isn’t worth getting to the airport extra early. Since we’re departing from Orlando, we try to arrive at the airport as close to our flight time as possible. In addition, our access to Delta SkyClubs is through my American Express Platinum card. Back in 2014, Delta started charging to bring guests into the club, but I still got access to The Club MCO for both of us via Priority Pass. So it wasn’t worth paying for the Delta lounge access. Once I got rid of the Platinum card in 2018, it was a moot point.
As a reminder, American Express Platinum and Delta Reserve cardholders flying on Delta flights can enter SkyClubs for free, but guests (a maximum of two) will cost $39 each. You can still buy a day pass for yourself and two guests for $39 each if you’re flying on a Delta flight and have an AMEX Delta Platinum card. The full SkyClub entrance rules can be found here.
Now that I had an AMEX Platinum card again and was going on a solo trip, it was the perfect time for a return visit. I got to the airport extra early for my Delta flight, so I had time to check out the SkyClub.
The entrance still has that 80s vibe. The lounge is up one level, which you can access via the elevator or stairs. I used the stairs and was immediately met by a Delta agent. She asked to see my boarding pass and I showed her my phone. She scanned the code and welcomed me to the club, providing information about my departing flight and how to log into the Wi-Fi.
I can confirm you do not have to show your AMEX Platinum card to the agent if you’ve added the card to your Delta profile.
I immediately noticed that the club had gotten refreshed in the last several years. The design was still the same, but the beige and brown paint was replaced with a blue/white color scheme. At 8 AM on a Friday, plenty of seats were available, most of which had power and USB charging ports. There were a few longer tables that more conducive to working.
The Orlando SkyClub does have plenty of natural light from the windows along one side of the lounge. Most of the seats in this area were already taken when I arrived. Besides the usual club seating, there’s an eating area with tables and high tops around the room.
As for the food, the breakfast offerings included a cheese omelet, chicken sausage and rosemary potatoes. There was also oatmeal with toppings and a selection of bread, bagels, and English muffins. Along the other wall were several wrapped fresh fruit items. For drinks, they had coffee, tea and juice. In addition, the bar was open if you wanted a soft drink or maybe something a little stronger before your flight.
To compare, I’d rate the SkyClub food better than what we’ve had at The Club MCO on our recent visits. Is it $39 better if we’re both visiting and I’d have to pay for a guest? Probably not.
Final Thoughts
I’m glad I checked out the Delta SkyClub at Orlando Airport. Seeing that the club no longer looks like you’re walking into the Golden Girls’ home was nice [Note from Sharon: That made me laugh]. The fresh coat of paint and new furniture were both long overdue.
I did notice that the club seemed emptier than I’d remembered and there were definitely fewer children that when we used to go to this lounge in the years before 2014. This may have been due to when I was traveling but I’m betting the more restrictive SkyClub access rules are also partially responsible.
This isn’t a club that I’ll get to the airport early to visit but as long as I have the AMEX Platinum card, I’ll pop in here instead of the Priority Pass club across the hall.
