SIXT Leans Into Premium Rental Market With Winter Promotion

SIXT is still a minor player in the US rental car market. They don’t have name recognition or corporate partnerships like Avis, National or Hertz. They also don’t have a reputation for low prices like Dollar, Thrifty or Alamo.

The fact that they have locations in over 105 countries with over 2,200 locations doesn’t impress American renters. For us, name recognition is EVERYTHING.

SIXT started by opening off-airport locations, as they have in many airports around the world. But they suffered because Americans view off-airport sites as second-tier rental companies.  The only exception was the short-lived Silvercar, which would pick you up from the airport in an Audi to drive you to their off-airport lot.

Oh, how we miss Silvercar!

We’ve only rented from SIXT once and it was a great experience. I upgraded to Platinum status because of my Citi Prestige card and we received a free upgrade to a Chevy Tahoe at the counter.

Before offering the free upgrade, I was offered a Mercedes, which I declined. He also said they had a Volvo XC90 and just out of curiosity I asked how much that would be. $20 extra per day.

At the time, I found it interesting that SIXT was offering premium upgrades for a reasonable price. Similar upgrades at Hertz or Avis would have cost considerably more.

Apparently, SIXT has decided to lean into the premium market by offering luxury cars at a considerable discount.

With its “Rent THE Car” promotion, Sixt is offering 30% off premium, luxury and extraordinary category bookings made before the end of January.

You must make your reservations on or before January 31, 2023, for a rental that begins on or before March 31, 2023, with a rental length of 1-27 days.

If you’re looking for a special car during spring break, this promotion has no blackout dates.

Depending on the price, it might be a deal to book a premium car over a popular weekend with a 30% discount for the same price as an economy car from a different company.
