AREA15 is an immersive entertainment venue currently offering art shows, VR experiences, axe throwing, a flight simulator and more. Located aside Interstate 15, just one mile west of the Las Vegas Strip, the venue opened in September 2020.
Filled with, “larger-than-life art installations, mind-altering virtual reality experiences, fresh and exciting shopping experiences, and events with distinction,” the venue has been continually expanding since it opened.
Along these lines, Universal Parks & Resorts has just announced a new “horror experience” that will be the anchor tenant of AREA15’s upcoming 20-acre expansion. Unlike the seasonal Halloween Horror Nights seen at Universal Studios Orlando, Hollywood, Singapore and Japan (don’t think you’d be a fan of HHN? Here’s a scaredy cat’s guide), this venue will be permanent and year-round, not just for Halloween season.
The Universal horror attraction’s official name and opening date have not yet been announced. However we do know it will occupy a purpose-built, 111,000-square-foot space.
Universal says the attraction will offer live-action shocks and thrills based on the studio’s legacy of horror and will be continuously updated to encompass new films and franchises (*cough* and so people will want to re-visit, to see the new stuff *cough*).
If you ARE a Halloween Horror Nights fan, you may notice some icons in the concept art above; Jack the Clown and Chance from Universal Orlando and Hollywood Harry from Universal Studios Hollywood appear to be greeting guests. And is that the Bride of Frankenstein I see, too?
Promoters have said the venue will have “one-of-a-kind” merchandise and that seasonal events are being planned (Halloween Horror Nights Las Vegas, perhaps?).
“Area15 curates a constellation of best-in-class experiences. Universal’s never-been-done-before concept will be a perfect fit because our guests know they can expect fresh, exciting entertainment at AREA15,” Area15 CEO Winston Fisher said in a statement. “We are enormously gratified to have an extraordinary company like Universal as our partner as we embark on the next phase of growth for Area15.”
Area15’s website doesn’t mention the new Universal attraction yet, but I’m sure it will soon. All in good time.
No word yet if this year-round attraction will also become a part of the AREA15 venue currently being built in Orlando, FL.
