The Most Expensive Airbnb Listing in the U.S.

by SharonKurheg

For some people, staying in the lap of luxury – the cream of the crop – is the ultimate goal. Granted, even 5 star hotels can get crappy reviews sometimes. But for some people, it’s either the best of the best, or nothing.

These people have undoubtedly stayed at one or more of the 10 most expensive hotels in the country. But what if they’d rather have a “homier” atmosphere? Well, they could stay at what is considered to be the most expensive Airbnb in the U.S.

You’d normally think the most expensive Airbnb in the country would be in a big city. Maybe New York City, Honolulu or San Francisco. Those are what Quicken Loans lists as the 3 most expensive cities in the country right now.

Nope. The most expensive Airbnb isn’t in a big city at all. Although it’s definitely in a hoity-toity part of the country. It’s in the Hamptons. Located on the eastern end of Long Island’s southern fork, the Hamptons include a little less than 2 dozen seaside villages that were once home to colonial-era fishing, whaling and farming interests. They’ve since grown into luxurious communities.

Some of the (at least part-time) residents of the Hamptons include Anderson Cooper, Neil Patrick Harris, Beyonce, Alec Baldwin, Brook Shields, Robert De Niro, Jerry Seinfeld and Gwyneth Paltrow.

And, depending on the date, if you have a spare $14,048 to $23,890 per night (plus hospitality fees), you could “live” in the Hamptons too, at the country’s most expensive Airbnb.

The Airbnb is listed as Cobb Road Daydream. It’s in the hamlet of Water Mill, population 1,860, and listed as the 6th most expensive Small Town in the U.S. by Business Week. Reportedly, other residents include talk show host Kelly Ripa and her husband, actor Mark Consuelos. Anthony Scaramucci also apparently lived in Water Mill for a hot minute (from 2018 to 2020).

Anyway, back to the listing…

The 12,000 square foot, 9 bedroom home can sleep at least 18. All bedrooms except two have either a king or queen sized bed and an ensuite bathroom that offers either a standalone shower or a shower/tub combo, as well as a television and ceiling fan. Bedrooms 8 and 9 also each have queen beds but share access to a hallway bathroom (which also has a standalone shower, TV and ceiling fan).

From StayMarquis.com, where the home is also listed:

The three majestic floors feature soaring ceilings, living areas with the finest furniture, a massive kitchen with island seating, modern art throughout, and sun pouring through myriad of windows. On the lower level is a media room, well-equipped gym, and, yes, a wine tasting space. Step into the backyard and be in awe of the impeccably maintained landscape. Have a friendly match on the new Har-Tru tennis court before taking a dip in the tremendous pool or hop in the outdoor shower room. Also, on property is a generous pool house with a spa and vanishing glass walls. Outdoor seating and dining areas lend themselves to gregarious gatherings.

The indoor features and amenities include:

• Fully equipped kitchen with breakfast table
• Formal dining areas with seating for 20
• Dishwasher
• Ice maker
• Gas fireplace
• Tasting room
• Wi-Fi
• Smart TV
• Home gym
• Game room
• Media room
• Pool table
• Air conditioning
• Heating
• Ceiling fans
• 2 Washers/Dryers
• 2 Irons/Ironing boards

The outdoor features are:

Saltwater pool – heating included, open from Memorial Day to Labor Day
• Hot tub – heating included, open from Memorial Day to Labor Day
• Pool house
• Gas barbecue
• Terrace
• Garden
• Tennis court
• Driveway parking – 8 spaces
• Garage – 3 spaces
• Gated property

Optional staff and service (some with advance notice) include:

• Villa pre-stocking
• Airport transfers
• Activities and excursions
• Housekeeping

Not mentioned on Airbnb, but included on StarMarquis is that renters must be at least 30 years old and are required to obtain $5M in liability insurance (Airbnb only mentions requiring an on-site security deposit of $6500 via credit card or wire transfer).

Here’s a video of the property, done about a year ago:

Oh, and if you’d rather do a monthly rental, that’ll set you back about $300,000/month, according to Zillow. Or $150,000/month on realtor.com.

So all that (and maybe more) for $14,048 to $23,890 per night (plus hospitality fees). Worth it? Well, not to me. As the good blog says, Your Mileage May Vary.
