This Might Be the Strangest Way To Use Aeroplan Points—But It Could Be A Good Value

by joeheg

I’ve seen points used for flights, hotels, upgrades, and even concert tickets, but this one caught me off guard.

You can use Air Canada Aeroplan points for a Disney experience. But it’s not for a hotel stay or even for park tickets.

Starting in May, you can redeem Aeroplan points for a better place to watch the fireworks at EPCOT.

Aeroplan Meets Disney In An Unexpected Way

While digging through the Aeroplan rewards portal, I came across something I honestly didn’t expect to see: the ability to redeem points for preferred viewing of Luminous: The Symphony of Us, the nighttime spectacular at EPCOT.

And the price is what really makes this stand out.

For just 1,000 Aeroplan points, you can book access to a reserved viewing area for the show.

That’s a pretty unusual use of airline points.

What You’re Actually Getting

This isn’t a full-blown VIP tour, and it’s not one of Disney’s dessert parties.

What you’re getting is a reserved viewing area for EPCOT’s nighttime show. For anyone who has ever tried to find a good fireworks spot around World Showcase on a busy evening, that alone can be worth something.

Instead of staking out a spot well ahead of showtime, you’re essentially using points to make that part of the evening easier.

The reserved viewing area is at the China Overlook, near the China Pavilion, with reservations available starting May 9. Capacity is limited, which is part of what makes this feel a little more exclusive than just showing up and hoping to find a decent place to stand.

That said, this redemption only covers the viewing area. You’ll still need a valid EPCOT admission, and if your ticket requires a Disney Park Pass reservation, you’ll want to make sure you’ve secured it before spending any Aeroplan points.

Is It Actually A Good Value?

At first glance, redeeming Aeroplan points for a fireworks viewing area sounds random. But the more I thought about it, the more it made sense.

Depending on how you value Aeroplan points, 1,000 points is not a huge redemption. If those points save you from showing up an hour early, standing in a packed crowd, or settling for a less-than-great view, there’s a real argument that this could be a worthwhile use.

It’s certainly not the highest-value redemption in the Aeroplan universe. You’re not getting an outsized premium-cabin sweet spot here.

But not every redemption has to be about squeezing out maximum cents per point. Sometimes the best value is using a small number of points to make a vacation day easier and more enjoyable.

Why This Caught My Attention

There are only so many ways to write about points being used for flights and hotel rooms. So when a loyalty program adds something genuinely unexpected, it stands out.

This is one of those redemptions that makes you stop and look twice. It connects an airline program with a Disney perk in a way that feels both strange and surprisingly practical.

If you have a stash of Aeroplan points and no immediate flight redemption in mind, using 1,000 points for a better fireworks experience at EPCOT could actually make a lot of sense.

Final Thought

This might be one of the strangest ways to use Aeroplan points, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad one.

In fact, for the right person, it could be a very solid value. You’re not booking a flight or upgrading a seat. You’re just making a Disney evening a little easier, a little less stressful, and maybe a little more enjoyable.

And sometimes, that’s exactly the kind of redemption worth making.
