Vietnam Airlines Resuming Flights To Several International Destinations

by joeheg

Before 2020, Vietnam Airlines flew to several international destinations. During the pandemic, these flights were halted as the airline mainly focused on travel within Vietnam. International travel to Vietnam is starting to pick up, so the flag carrier is resuming some of its routes in Indochina and additional locations.

Starting on July 1st, the carrier will resume flights between Hanoi, Luang Prabang (Laos), and Siem Reap (Cambodia) with three flights weekly on their A321s. This will increase to five flights a week on October 30th. This is primarily a leisure flight, allowing visitors an easy way to visit two of the region’s world heritage sites. The elimination of this flight caused us to take 3 flights, and a good portion of one day, to get from Luang Prabang to Siem Reap.

people sitting in an airplaneBesides the flights within Indochina, Vietnam Airlines just started flights to Mumbai, India and will begin flights to Melbourne, Australia from Hanoi on June 15th. Finally, the airline announced that flights to London Heathrow would change to a daily schedule on October 29th, with flights on a 787-9 Dreamliner alternating between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietnam Airlines competes with LCC VietJet on all but the long-haul flights so there are usually decent pricing on these new routes once they’re loaded into the schedule.

The tourism industry in Vietnam is still recovering from the pandemic with many hotels, restaurants and shops still closed. It’s good to see that the airlines are seeing increased demand for international flights as this will bring the much-needed tourism dollars back to the country. In our case, I’m happy we got to see things before they got overcrowded.
