The last stop on our tour of Southeast Asia was Siem Reap, Cambodia. I anticipated this stop more than anywhere else on the trip as I’ve wanted to visit Angkor Wat ever since my father made the trip a few years ago. I didn’t pick the hotel as it was part of our tour package but I can’t imagine there are other hotels in the area that have more to offer guests. In this post, I’ll go over our room at the Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort. In an upcoming post, I’ll write more about the property and amenities.

The Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort is located centrally in Siem Reap on Charles de Gaulle Avenue. It’s approximately a 20-minute drive from the airport and close to the major sites of the area, including the Angkor Wat complex.

As a Sofitel hotel, it is a part of the Accor family and participates in Accor Live Limitless. You can redeem ALL points for your hotel stay or earn points during your visit. Until visiting Southeast Asia, we had no idea about the luxury footprint Accor has established in Vietnam and Cambodia.

As the #2 rated resort in Siem Reap on TripAdvisor, with over 4,500 reviews, I was looking forward to our stay. Even if it would be hard to surpass the Belmond retreat we just stayed at in Laos.

We arrived quite late in the evening due to the difficulty in traveling from Laos to Cambodia, which will soon become much easier.

After getting our keys, we headed straight to our room.

The 238 rooms and suites are spread over several buildings across the property. Once we got to our building, we had a long hallway to get to our room.

While the hallway wasn’t that impressive, it was obvious that more attention was spent decorating the rooms. We immediately noticed the wood flooring and doors in the room.

There’s not much more that I can say about the room than what you can see in the pictures.

Behind the sliding wood doors were drawers, a safe and a closet with plenty of hangers and a suitcase holder.

The TV cabinet also had additional storage.

And a Samsung DVD player in case you brought some movies with you on your vacation.

There was also a stocked mini-bar in the room and the prices were reasonable. One surprising thing in Cambodia was that all prices were based on the USD.

The bathroom was cramped for a luxury hotel, as they made space for a tub and shower.  The counter space was limited and we had to move items around to make space for our stuff.

The next morning, when walking to breakfast, we got a better look at the property.

All of the pathways pass a lagoon which is in the center of the resort.

Throughout the property are reminders of the Khmer heritage of the area.

It’s hard to compare all of the hotels we stayed at during our trip through Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. Each of them tried to capture the vibe of the area. Each of them had things to like and it’s hard to say one was better than another.

I enjoyed our stay at the Sofitel Angkor, but it did feel like a resort. I could see staying here for several days, particularly if you’re going to take advantage of the golf resort. Since we only stayed for 2 nights, I didn’t get a chance to fully experience the resort but I did enjoy our room and the resort as a whole.
