Visiting The Marble Mountains of Danang, Vietnam

by joeheg

One morning of our trip to Danang, Vietnam we visited the Marble Mountains. The mountains are located south of Danang and are located close to several of the beach resorts. It was only a 5-minute drive from the Hyatt Regency to the ticket booth. Five mountains are named after the elements, but most guests, including us, only visit Water Mountain.

When we visited, the price to visit was around $2. Before reaching the ticket booth, stalls sell all types of items. I’ve read that the shopkeepers can be pushy, but we walked past them quickly and had no problem.

A warning that the stairs are uneven and slippery. Wear comfortable shoes with good treads. I’d stick to the elevator if you have leg, knee or breathing problems.

I walked up the stairs and the first stop was Linh Ung Pagoda.

From here, it was a short walk to Xa Loi Tower. This is where you’ll arrive if you take the elevator.

If you can’t climb many stairs, you can visit these sites via the elevator and see many highlights. However, if you head further up the mountain, there’s more to see.

At the next level, there’s a relaxation area where you can purchase snacks or drinks. There are also stairs to a smaller cave. a statue in a cave

Before starting on our way down, we passed the Tam Thai Pagoda.

We walked down the stairs to the other entrance/exit.

We spent around 90 minutes walking around but you could spend more time if you wanted. We didn’t climb to the peak and there were other caves we didn’t visit. It wasn’t the hot time of the year but by mid-morning, it was already getting sticky and uncomfortable.

I was glad I climbed Water Mountain and saw the many statues and pagodas. It was a big difference from the beach resort we were staying at and after climbing the stairs it felt good to soak in the hotel pool that afternoon.
