If you’re considering drinking on a plane, there are a few things you should know. To start with, experts advise against drinking while flying as it can lead to dehydration, disrupt your sleeping patterns, and make you visit the lavatory more often. Despite these warnings, however, many passengers still opt to have a drink while settling in for their flight.
It’s one thing if you’re on a long flight across the ocean where you’re going to be served a meal, especially if you’re sitting in business or first class. It would be a shame to pass up on a few glasses of champagne while flying to Singapore.
The rules regarding complimentary drinks are different for domestic flights in the US. If you’re flying in first class with one of the legacy carriers, have elite status, or have paid for an extra legroom seat, you may be able to enjoy free drinks during your flight. However, if you’re traveling with any other airline, you will likely have to pay for any alcoholic beverages you consume onboard. Remember that you’re not allowed to drink your own alcohol on a plane.
If you’re flying on Southwest, that drink just got a bit more expensive. According to the Dallas Morning News, Southwest increased the prices for alcoholic beverages across the board, starting on November 15th.
- Beer on Southwest, including Miller Lite, Lagunitas IPA and Kona Brewing Big Wave Golden Ale, will now be $7, previously $6.
- Southwest’s wine options, which include Cruset Brut sparkling wine, Carmenet Cabernet Sauvignon, Mossel Bay Chenin Blanc Chardonnay, and Stone Cellars California Rosé, will increase to $8 from $6.
- All liquor on Southwest will be $9, formerly $7.
And don’t forget to pay for that drink with one of the Southwest personal co-brand credit cards to get 25% back.
