In 2023, Sharon and I flew the most miles since our visits to Australia and Japan, back before the pandemic. That’s not surprising, as we we flew on some of the longest flights in the world on planes specifically configured for these flights. In addition, we took several short weekend trips by flying around the US to see concerts or Broadway shows.

In all, we flew 30 flight segments for a total of 39,479 miles.
- Longest flight – 8,770 miles from Los Angeles to Singapore on Singapore Airlines
- Shortest flight – 134 miles from Luang Prabang to Vientiane on Lao Airlines
I’ll admit that the map is a bit cluttered. So here’s a breakdown of our flights in 2023.
Delta Airlines
We flew on 10 flight segments with Delta in 2023, making it our #1 airline for the year.

Most of our flights were on A321 aircraft, including the first A321neo that Delta received. The one exception was when we flew on a 767-400er to Atlanta and upgraded to the Premium Select cabin.
Singapore Airlines
We flew on four flights with Singapore Airlines in 2023, including two ultra-long haul trips.

Besides getting to fly from Los Angeles to Singapore on the A350-900, we also flew on the same plane in a regional configuration. While we don’t get to fly with them often, Singapore Airlines is one of my favorite carriers in the world.
JetBlue
Several airlines tied for third place on my list with three flights each. We flew with JetBlue several times back and forth to New York.

We flew on everything from a classic E190 jet to an updated A320.
United
We flew with United three times this year. When traveling to United hubs, it’s often the only option besides a budget carrier. Otherwise, we’d need to take a connecting flight.

Lao Airlines
We flew three times on Lao Airlines, including our shortest flight of the year. It was also the first time we’ve flown on an ATR in a long while.

Southwest
Southwest used to be one of our preferred airlines, but we only flew with them twice this year due to inconvenient schedules and high airfares.

We also flew on two American Airlines flights this year, a round trip to Charlotte.

Vietnam Airlines
We took two flights on a Vietnam Airlines A321 for flights in the country.

Cambodia Angkor Air
Until our flight on this airline, I had never even heard of it. It was a last-minute addition when our flight from Luang Prabang to Siem Reap was canceled. I was very impressed with the carrier and their A320 was in great shape.

Final Thought
Last year, we traveled a lot more than usual, mostly for our trip to Southeast Asia. We got to try some new airlines and I finally got to try the Lobster Thermidor on Singapore Airlines.
Unlike 2022, neither of us took any solo trips this year. That will change in 2023, as I already have a solo trip planned in a few months.
Lastly, it was surprising to see how much we flew with Delta this year. But honestly, I didn’t mind it at all because the experience of flying from Orlando with Delta is much better than any other airline, except for JetBlue, which now flies out of Terminal C.
