If you have a credit card in your wallet, it should be registered with a dining program. You never know when you may earn extra miles without even trying.
Last week, Sharon and I found ourselves on the other side of Orlando during rush hour. Although the urban planners made efforts to provide quicker transport options with pay lanes on I-4, Waze was telling us that the typical 30-minute drive home was estimated to take almost an hour. Instead of sitting in traffic, we decided to look for a nearby restaurant to have dinner and wait for the traffic to die down before driving home.
We were in an unfamiliar area, so I turned to Yelp to find a place to eat and found Sam Snead’s Tavern. After looking at the menu, we agreed that the selections were basic but decent. There was nothing particularly appealing, but each of us could find something to eat. It was a typical American restaurant.
Sharon ordered ribs, and I got blackened chicken pasta. Both meals were good, but the desserts impressed us more. Here’s a closeup of her peanut butter pie, with my coconut cream pie in the background.
Except for the leftovers in the fridge, memories of the meal faded quickly, besides filing the location as suitable for a return visit if we’re ever in a similar situation.
However, I received an email from Delta SkyMiles Dining about how I earned miles for our meal and if I could give a review.
I paid for the meal with our AMEX Platinum card because I have a 10X point offer for restaurant spending. Thank you to whoever used our referral link.
Great news! You now qualify for a special offer. Starting from the date this email was sent, you can earn +10 rewards per dollar on eligible purchases at restaurants worldwide with your American Express® Card ending in (and any Additional Card associated with this account) on up to $25,000 in combined purchases, for the next three months. Terms Apply.
I don’t know when I added my AMEX Platinum card to my Delta SkyMiles Dining account, but I’m glad I did. For our purchase, I earned an additional 336 miles.
This is why you should always register your credit cards with a dining program. It only takes a few minutes and you can earn some easy miles. While I never search for restaurants through the dining program, I should think of it more often. On the other hand, 336 SkyMiles doesn’t motivate me to visit one establishment over another.
