The social media team for Orlando International Airport has been one of our favorites for years and years and years. They’re funny as all out and besides giving you the boring-but-necessary info that they’re at a ground stop because it’s summer in Orlando or CrowdStrike is having a brain fart, or that Parking Garages A & B are full, they also post a whole lot of stuff just to make its readers smile.
I mean, who could ever forget their tweet war over Chili’s?
Or when they compared Muppets to airline passengers?
🎶 It's time to play the music, it's time to fly the flights! ✈️

Or when they give directions about what to do on #WingsUpWednesday?
It's #WingsUpWednesday!
Here's today's checklist:

✈️ Book a flight and pick a window seat
⏰ Arrive at the airport 3 hours before your flight

That last sentence, tho
Now that last sentence? About snapping a carpet pic? Yeah. Lots of people have a whole lot of affection for the airside carpet in Terminals A and B. Maybe you’ve seen it?
Although probably not QUITE as popular as Portland’s residents’ affection for their old carpet (I bet they were thrilled when this announcement came out), it’s pretty darn popular. Enough where they give away (very popular) socks with the pattern (yeah, I’m still trying to win a pair, LOL!).
Starting off the year on the right foot. 🧦To win a pair, quote tweet this with #MCOsocks & your favorite pattern: Airside Carpet, Sunset Tower, Tower, Annie, Terminal C, MCO Paw Pilots, or Florida Life. Entries valid today only; 5 winners will be randomly selected & contacted. pic.twitter.com/Y1X3dxvVZr

@MCO you really should start selling these 😘 #MCO #MCOcammo #bestairportcarpet pic.twitter.com/9tnI1fFOZ9— YourMileageMayVary (@YourMileageVary) June 14, 2024
Meanwhile, back to the MCO social media team
Where were we, again? Oh yeah…MCO’s carpet.
So the other day, MCO’s social media team put out the following tweet:
-theme park ride preshow voice- "We need your help!" 👀 pic.twitter.com/9nuGvFdqPB
— Orlando International Airport (@MCO) July 18, 2024
(I love how their manager is labeled “Hello, this is your Manager” on their phone!)
Apparently, the social media team would like the airside carpet in their office, so they asked their manager how many likes they would have to get to get it. Their manager’s response? “40,700 likes (note: Orlando’s area code is 407), a comment from Universal Orlando Resort, AND Mayor Buddy Dyer.”
Whoa…that’s hardcore!
So what happened? Welp, within 2 hours, they had Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer’s thumbs up (Buddy’s a cool guy. He also does the “Welcome to Orlando/Goodbye from Orlando” spiels on the MCO monorails that whisk you between the main building and Terminals A/B/C):
Currently working on a new welcome message: This is Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and welcome to the office with the best carpet you'll ever see.
— Mayor Buddy Dyer (@orlandomayor) July 18, 2024
And an hour after that, there was a comment from Universal Resort Orlando:
A comment from Universal Orlando Resort

In fact, in the first the 24 hours after MCO’s tweet was posted, they had already garnered close to 50,000 views, more than 120 retweets and over 1.5k “likes.”
It’s a great start, but they need more! So if you have the time and inclination, please go to the post and give it a “like.” Their social media team needs that carpet!
