Our Favorite Marriott Hotel Brand

With over 30 different hotel brands under its banner, Marriott has a bit of something for everyone. There’s plenty of overlap between brands but there still is a little something different about each one. Our sample size is not very large, but there is one Marriott brand that appeals to us more than any other.

The Luxury Collection

We’re not fancy people at our core. We’re happy about staying at a Courtyard or AC Hotels location if it fits our needs. We loved our stay at a Moxy hotel but that’s not enough to make it our favorite.

Having a stash of Marriott Bonvoy points allows us to splurge on nice hotels and if we’re on a special trip, I’m looking for a Luxury Collection property.

What makes a hotel Luxury Collection material? Here’s a description from the Marriott website.

For those who yearn to not just discover a new destination, but to embrace it, to dive beneath the surface, to explore like a local, The Luxury Collection awaits. Each unique property is intrinsically connected to its locale, offering singularly distinctive experiences where once unfamiliar places are encountered, new connections are forged, and new cultures are embraced, leaving guests transformed – their stories enriched, their world expanded.

After getting through the marketing babble speak, I see why we like this brand. The hotels are unique and distinctive to their location.

The epitome of this is the Goldener Hirsch in Salzburg, Austria. The place just exudes Austrian charm. We’ve stayed there twice. Once before and then again after the hotel’s multi-million dollar renovation.

This might be our favorite hotel in the whole world. The entire experience of staying there is simply amazing.

Another Luxury Collection property is the Palace Hotel in San Francisco. The public spaces of this hotel are legendary.

The Palace Hotel is also home to the Pied Piper Bar. Its namesake painting by Maxfield Parrish hangs on the wall.

Another Luxury Collection property that fascinates me is The Langley, located outside London in the English countryside. We’ve never stayed there, but this review makes me think that we’d really love it if we did.

And now that MGM hotels are part of Marriott Bonvoy, The Bellagio has joined the Luxury Collection

Final Thoughts

I want to reiterate that we’re not fancy people, but I don’t think that’s totally true. We don’t need to be pampered, so we’re not the type to stay at the St. Regis. We also aren’t the kind of people looking for a hip vibe, so the W Hotels are not on the top of our list.

But if we can stay at a historic hotel with its classic charm intact, we’ll be there in a second.

So we might not be fancy, but we’ll admit that we enjoy a touch of luxury every now and then.
