Southwest Airlines Shares Some of Its Favorite Checked Items

by SharonKurheg

Southwest Airlines is in a state of flux right now. They’re about to break a 50-year tradition of open seating and begin assigning passenger seats. They plan to introduce premium seating options on all flights and redeye flights. This is on top of the cabin refresh they announced earlier this year. And besides rumors about the possibility of charging for checked bags, there are even recent grumbles that activist investor Elliott Investment Management wants to oust the company’s CEO.

Despite that, Southwest still touts itself as “the peoples’ airline.” To be honest, a lot of what they do shows that, as a brand, they like to show that they’re fun, cheeky and like to have a good time. They still give out free drinks on certain holidays (granted, it’s not as many as they used to). They still do concerts in the sky. And let’s face it, no other airline has these, am I right? 😉

So, it should come as no surprise that Southwest has a series on its social media called Our Favorite Checked Items.

The videos (5 of them now) are a smorgasbord of what else but rather unusual things people had checked before they flew with Southwest. I have no idea why that weird thing we checked didn’t make the list?!?!?!

They’re all quick, fun watches. Here they are:

Part 3

Part 4

Part 5

For years, Southwest has had a very interesting and informative Discussion Forum (not as interesting or informative as YMMV, but still up there). Now, in addition to the assigned seats and possible charge for checked bags, they announced that they are shutting down the Discussion Forum in 2 weeks. Too interesting and informative, I guess.

They are? Well, that sucks. (and their discussion forum was much more interesting than us. But thank you)
