If you snooze, you lose. That’s the reality in the travel loyalty game, where the best deals don’t wait around. Sometimes, it’s a rock-bottom award ticket that disappears before you can book it. Other times, a mistake fare gets yanked faster than you can say “PTO.” And then, some promos sound almost too good to be true. Because, apparently, they are.
Just last week, Capital One announced JetBlue TrueBlue was returning as a transfer partner. But excitement was muted—after all, the transfer ratio of 1,000 Capital One points to 600 JetBlue points is far from stellar (we broke it down in this post).
To sweeten the deal, Capital One threw in a one-time bonus of 5,000 TrueBlue points after your first transfer. On paper, this meant transferring just 1,000 Capital One miles could land you 5,600 JetBlue points—a staggering value. Even Gary from View from the Wing noted that this 7.3 cents/mile deal was an unheard-of redemption rate for Capital One points. Naturally, the deal spread fast across blogs, Reddit, and YouTube.
And just as quickly—it vanished.
I only got the promo email yesterday, yet when I logged in today, the bonus was already gone. The transfer ratio was back to its usual 1,000:600, and when I tested a transfer, I only received 600 TrueBlue points. Capital One quietly added a message that the “limited-time offer” was no longer available.
It turned out that “limited time” means less than 24 hours.
This is yet another reminder that when you see an unbelievable offer, you act first and think later. Because while you’re debating whether to transfer points, the bank is already pulling the rug out from under you.
