Update for Broken Online Passport Renewal Portal

by SharonKurheg

On Monday afternoon, we made y’all aware that the State Department’s online passport renewal website was not working appropriately and stopped people from being able to renew their passports online. At the time we had last updated it (Monday evening), the site was still “up but unusable for its original intentions.”

The site was still not working properly on Tuesday morning, marking the fifth consecutive day that the page was broken. However, when we checked again on Tuesday night, it looked like this:

No more notification towards the top of the page that “Payment services are unavailable due to an outage and will be restored as quickly as possible.”

So whatever problem there was, I guess they were able to fix it. Considering the fate of other government websites and pages that have been changed, updated, or disappeared (yep, a modern-day verb) these days, we’re pleasantly surprised.
