The 100K offer for the Chase Sapphire Preferred card is still alive, but some of the ways to fully maximize it are disappearing. While it reportedly has more than a day left, there are some important changes you should know about. If you’ve been on the fence or waiting to become eligible (like me), now’s the time to pay close attention.
Check Your Referral Links
When I applied a few days ago, I used the referral link from my wife’s card. At the time, the link showed the 100K offer. However, when I checked the same link today, it said the offer was no longer available. When I created a new referral link from her account, it worked, but it had reverted to the previous 60,000-point bonus.
Rakuten Offer Decreased Again
For those who collect Membership Rewards points or cash back from Rakuten, there was a potential to earn an extra bonus when signing up for the Sapphire Preferred.
At one point, you could get 30,000 points or $300 cash back by applying through the Rakuten link (Frequent Miler). When that expired, the offer dropped to 10,000 points or $100. Now, the bonus has decreased again, down to just $25 or 2,500 points.
Fortunately, that Rakuten link still directs to the 100K offer, so there’s still a small extra incentive if you apply through it.
Some Links Still Show the 100K Offer
While personal referral links no longer show the 100K offer, affiliate links—typically available to larger websites—are still working.
Was I Able to Apply?
As a follow-up to my post from a few days ago: I did try applying again for the Sapphire Preferred. That’s how I found out about the link changes and shrinking offers.
The good news? Chase didn’t block my application this time, even though I previously held the card. The bad news? I wasn’t instantly approved.
Honestly, I’m just happy I got the application into the system. I can work on approval later if needed.
Final Thoughts
The Chase Sapphire Preferred 100K offer is still available—for now—but changes are already happening around referral and bonus opportunities. If you’ve been considering applying, you might want to act sooner rather than later to avoid missing out on the full value.
