An Easy AMEX Offer That’s Basically Free Money

by joeheg

Sometimes an AMEX Offer comes back that’s not flashy but still worth adding right away. My wife Sharon just received one of those on several of her cards, and it happens to be one of my favorite recurring Amex offers: 10% back on insurance payments, up to $20. Even better, it’s valid through December 31, 2025. Easy money if you have an insurance bill that you can pay with an American Express card.

Of the two of us, only Sharon received the offer this time, but it showed up on most of her personal Amex cards — Green, Gold, Platinum, Hilton, and Marriott. Oddly enough, it didn’t appear on her Blue Business Plus or Everyday cards. (AMEX loves to keep things interesting.)

About AMEX Offers

For anyone new to these, AMEX Offers are targeted rebates or bonus points you can add to your card. They’re one of the easiest ways to get extra value out of your Amex cards — especially since many of them are for everyday purchases.

However, there’s a quirk people forget about: even if an offer shows up on multiple of your cards, you can only enroll one card in that offer. Once you add it to a card, it disappears from the others. So choose wisely.

How We’re Using It

Since the offer gives 10% back up to $20, you’re capped at $200. Nothing complicated.

Right now, I’d rather earn 3X Hilton points than 1 regular Membership Rewards point, so Sharon is enrolling the offer on her Hilton Surpass and using that for the next insurance payment.

Not every AMEX Offer is worth jumping on — but the ones that give easy money on bills you were going to pay anyway? Those are the ones I never pass up.
