When we posted 10 mind blowing maps of the United States a few months ago, the feedback was really good. It’s been a while, so here are a few more for your enjoyment.
States where it’s legal to marry your first cousin
Courtesy of QuirkyMaps. If you’ve ever had “feelings” for your first cousin, you may or may not have to move to be able to tie the knot. By the way, you’d be in good company – Jerry Lee Lewis, Albert Einstein, Edgar Allan Poe, Queen Victoria and Johann Sebastian Bach, among others, all married first cousins.

Amish population by County in 2025
Not surprisingly, Pennsylvania has the most. Although several other states have a relatively high population, as well.

Average hourly wage of police officers by state…
Being a police officer is easily one of the most dangerous professions out there. With average salaries ranging from $21.85 to $53.67, apparently some states appreciate that more than others. WTG, California, Alaska and Washington!

…and of firefighters
Firefighters might have a word to say about which job is more dangerous. But once again you can see that some states pay their firefighters MUCH more than others. ($17.92 per hour? Really, Louisiana? Yikes!)

Cheaper to buy or rent
Housing costs are sky high, and many people carefully compare the costs of renting vs. buying. This map is small on this page, but if you go to the original site, besides the map being larger, it’s also interactive, going county by county.

Percentage of residents who were born in the state where they live
The source of this map, courtesy of Land_geist, is Census.gov, circa 2019. So it’s possible the numbers have changed a bit since then. But it’s interesting to see which states have so many people who never moved from the state they were born, compared to the states that have so many residents who are from somewhere else.

The source of most residents born out-of-state
And for each state’s residents who weren’t born there, what state is the source of where the most of them come from? Here ya go.

North America’s Top 30 largest cities by population
The United States has most of the top 30, but not all.

Most popular coffee brands
Thanks to maven mapping for this one. Which coffee brand is the most popular in your state?

Proximity to a national park
The first national park in the country, Yellowstone National Park, was established in 1872 (thanks to President Ulysses S. Grant). Since then, the National Park System has grown to encompass 433 sites across the United States. Not all of us live near one, though—here are the approximate distances.
