If you have an IHG credit card with an annual free night certificate, Walt Disney World is one place where it can be surprisingly easy to use that benefit.
The current IHG One Rewards Premier and Premier Business cards come with an anniversary free night certificate worth up to 40,000 points. And if a hotel costs more than that, you can add IHG points to cover the difference.
There’s also the older IHG Select card, which is no longer available to new applicants but is still in plenty of wallets. Its annual certificate is also capped at 40,000 points, although it can’t be topped off with additional points.
Fortunately, that limitation isn’t much of a problem around Walt Disney World.
IHG has many hotels around Lake Buena Vista and the Disney area, and when I checked award rates, many were available for well under 40,000 points. That included hotels just outside Disney property, resorts geared toward families and even a hotel in the Disney Springs Resort Area itself.
So whether you’re using an IHG free night for a quick Disney trip or trying to get more than $99 of value from the annual certificate that comes with the Premier card, you’ll have plenty of options.
There Are Plenty Of IHG Hotels Near Disney For Under 40K
IHG uses variable award pricing, so there’s no guarantee that a hotel will cost the same number of points from one night to another.
Still, when I searched the area around Walt Disney World, I had no problem finding hotels for considerably less than 40,000 points.
In fact, several IHG properties around Lake Buena Vista were priced between about 15,000 and 20,000 points on the dates I checked.
Even hotels located very close to Walt Disney World weren’t pushing the 40K limit.
That matters because it means that whether you have one of the old Select certificates or a certificate from the current Premier cards, you still have plenty of options around Disney.
Here are some of the properties I’d look at first.
Holiday Inn Orlando-Disney Springs Area
If location is most important, it’s hard to beat the Holiday Inn Orlando-Disney Springs Area.
This hotel is actually located on Walt Disney World property in the Disney Springs Resort Area.
It’s an Official Walt Disney World Hotel, within walking distance of Disney Springs, and guests currently receive 30-minute Early Theme Park Entry at the Walt Disney World theme parks.
That’s a meaningful difference compared with staying at a hotel that’s simply somewhere near Disney.
You get the convenience of being on Disney property without paying Disney hotel prices, while still being able to use IHG points or a free night certificate.
Crowne Plaza Orlando – Lake Buena Vista
Just outside Disney property is the Crowne Plaza Orlando – Lake Buena Vista.
This is another hotel that’s extremely close to Disney Springs and the theme parks, but it’s more of a traditional full-service hotel than some of the limited-service IHG choices around Orlando.
When I searched, rooms here were available for well below 40,000 points.
For someone who wants to stay close to Disney but doesn’t necessarily care about being on Disney property, this is the type of hotel that makes an IHG certificate particularly easy to use.
Holiday Inn Resort Orlando Suites – Waterpark
Families looking for more than a standard hotel room might prefer the Holiday Inn Resort Orlando Suites.
Longtime Orlando visitors may remember this property as the former Nickelodeon Suites Resort. Today, it’s an all-suite resort with a waterpark and several family-oriented amenities.
Because the accommodations are suites, this can also be a more practical option if you’re traveling with children and don’t want everyone squeezed into one standard hotel room.
It’s also very close to Walt Disney World.
When I checked IHG award prices in this area, this hotel was another resort-style property that could still fall comfortably below the 40,000-point certificate limit.
Holiday Inn Resort Orlando Lake Buena Vista
Another nearby choice is the Holiday Inn Resort Orlando Lake Buena Vista.
This property is located just outside Walt Disney World and offers a more conventional resort experience, with a pool, restaurants and other amenities.
It’s a good middle ground between a basic Holiday Inn Express and one of the more elaborate vacation-club properties.
Again, I found award prices well below 40,000 points in my sample searches.
Orange Lake Gives You Much More Space
Then there’s the Holiday Inn Club Vacations at Orange Lake Resort.
Orange Lake is different from the other hotels on this list.
It’s a massive 1,450-acre resort divided into four villages, with seven pools, a 1,200-foot lazy river-style pool, waterslides, golf courses, restaurants and plenty of other activities.
More importantly for families, you can find much larger villa-style accommodations instead of a regular hotel room.
The resort is located west of Walt Disney World, close to Animal Kingdom. So it’s not as convenient for Disney Springs as the other hotels I’ve mentioned, but you’re getting a very different type of stay.
What surprised me was the award pricing. When I checked September 2026, many available nights at Orange Lake were priced at just 32,000 or 33,000 points. I also found plenty of dates in November and early December below the 40,000-point mark.
However, around Thanksgiving, award prices climbed above 40,000 points. Around Christmas and New Year’s, some nights were pricing above 90,000 points.
That’s Where The Premier Certificate Has An Advantage
The current IHG One Rewards Premier and Premier Business certificates are capped at 40,000 points, but you can add points from your IHG account when an award costs more.
So if a hotel costs 46,000 points, you could use your certificate and add 6,000 points.
That feature may not matter much for an ordinary Disney trip, since many hotels in the area are available below 40K.
But it can become useful during busier periods when award prices increase.
The older IHG Select certificate doesn’t have that flexibility, so with that certificate you still need to find a night costing 40,000 points or less.
You Don’t Have To Max Out The Certificate For It To Be A Good Deal
There’s also a temptation with free night certificates to feel that you need to use every last bit of their potential value. I don’t necessarily look at it that way. The current IHG Premier card has a $99 annual fee.
If I can use the annual certificate for a hotel room that would otherwise cost more than $99, I’m already getting back more than the card’s annual fee from that one benefit.
Sure, I’d rather use the certificate for a $200 room than a $120 room. And if a hotel costs only 15,000 points, I might pay with points and save the certificate for another trip.
But I’m also not going to let a certificate expire because I was waiting for the perfect 39,000-point redemption.
Sometimes getting a room you actually need is good enough.
Remember That “Free” Might Not Mean Completely Free
IHG doesn’t automatically eliminate resort fees or other hotel-specific charges just because you’re staying on a Reward Night.
IHG’s terms specifically allow certain hotels to charge resort fees and other property-specific surcharges separately, payable directly to the hotel. That’s especially important when you’re comparing properties around Walt Disney World.
A hotel might be available with your free night certificate, but you could still end up paying a resort fee, parking fee or other charges during your stay.
So before redeeming a certificate, I’d check the total cash price and any fees you’ll still have to pay.
Final Thought
If you have an IHG free night certificate and you’re planning a trip to Walt Disney World, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to use it without much trouble.
IHG has plenty of hotels around Lake Buena Vista and Disney Springs, so you’re not limited to one or two choices, and many regularly price below 40,000 points. That includes everything from a hotel in the Disney Springs Resort Area to larger family resorts like Orange Lake.
The biggest thing I’d watch is the total cost. A certificate can easily cover more than the annual fee on the card, but resort fees, parking charges and other extras can still add up.
For me, that’s the real value here. You don’t need to find some perfect 40,000-point redemption. If the certificate gets you a hotel you actually want near Disney and saves you more than you’re paying to keep the card, that’s a perfectly good use.
