New Airline Announces Flights to Orlando International Airport

by joeheg

Our main airport is Orlando International (MCO). So we tend monitor the latest updates on its new flights and cancellations. Recently, many smaller airports have been added to the list of serviced destinations, with airlines like Avelo and Breeze expanding their routes. Notably, Southwest has also relocated its Caribbean flights from Fort Lauderdale to Orlando.

However, when I was updating a post about the airlines serviced from Orlando Airport, I noticed a new line on the map.

a map of the world with many points

When looking at the transatlantic routes, I was familiar with Emirates’ flight to Dubai and Lufthansa’s flight from Frankfurt. However, I wasn’t aware that there was a non-stop flight from Orlando to Spain.

I researched and found a new route on the MCO Wikipedia page.

What is Iberojet, and when did they announce flights to Orlando from Madrid?

From what I could find online, Iberojet is a charter airline that operates short and long-haul flights from Spain and Portugal. The flight to Orlando from Madrid will operate once weekly using an A350-900. According to Wikipedia, the airline only has two of these planes in their fleet.

Iberojet planes have an all-economy configuration, making it clear that this is a leisure airline primarily intended for passengers traveling from Spain to Florida.

Orlando Airport is served by a variety of airlines, including Icelandair, AerLingus, Porter Air, Azul, and Aeromexico. However, Iberojet is unique in that Orlando is the airline’s only destination in the United States.

I’ll have to wait until June 2024 to see if this flight eventually happens, but if it does, I might have to head to the airport to catch a glimpse of this plane’s only stop in the United States.
