Regardless of who won the election last week, there were going to be a bunch of people who were going to be very, very, very unhappy. Maybe even unhappy enough to leave the country. And a cruise company, already known for cruises that last for years, apparently was prepared to help those disappointed people, whoever they were going to be, once the election was over.
Villa Vie Residences, a residential cruise line based in Florida, allows passengers to escape from real life by spending months or even years on board. They announced last Thursday (yep, just 2 days after the election) the launch of their brand new Tour La Vie program. It offers options of sailing for 1, 2, 3 or 4 years. And although they never mention any politician or even politics in general, you can tell that’s what they’re getting at.
After all, their ‘Skip Forward’ package is a whopping four-year cruise that promises visits to 140 countries across all seven continents.
In an even more direct reference to the election, the ‘Mid-Term Selection’ package runs for two years. Of course, that would mean coming home just in time for the mid-term general elections in 2026.
They also offer a 1-year ‘Escape from Reality’ package, as well as a 3-year ‘Everywhere but Home’ plan. I guess to see if things look any better in 2025 or 2027? 😉
“Villa Vie offers a unique one-of-a-kind way see the whole world at a slow pace where you have enough time to actually experience the cultural vibe of every port.” said Anne Alms, Head of Sales for Villa Vie Residences. “Your villa is your bedroom, and the ship is your home, she’ll take you across the globe to endless horizons.”
What you get
Each cabin includes a mini fridge, a smart TV and climate control. The ship has everything a person would ever want or need on board – including high-speed internet, housekeeping (2 per week), all-inclusive food, spa facilities and fitness programs are included, as well as a generous social program. They also have an onboard hospital and pharmacy to cater to residents’ medical needs. Oh, and if you have friends or family who want to visit, you can invite them along – for a cost of $129 per day.
When not on board the ship, passengers will have the opportunity to explore destinations such as Buenos Aires, Japan, Bali, the Philippines, Sydney, Singapore and Mumbai, to name a few.
The cost
Unfortunately, you can’t use points or miles to book a Villa Vie cruise. And living on a luxury cruise ship doesn’t come cheap. Here are the prices:
Sounds familiar?
If this “long term cruise” sounds familiar, there’s a reason for that. Villa Vie’s Odyssey ship set sail a few weeks ago, albeit after several months of quote/unquote “paperwork” delays. In fact, a passenger-to-be was reportedly kicked off the ship, before it ever even set sail, for complaining about the delays in private groups.
But Odyssey is now on the move and is prepared to welcome more guests who would rather avoid U.S. politics for the next few years.
In a statement to Business Insider, a spokesperson for Villa Vie Residences said a journey on board the ship gives passengers ‘flexibility to escape traffic jams, politics, and the monotony of city life’.

For some reason, this reminds me of the movie scene in Legends of the Fall where Brad Pitt escapes from society on a boat to Africa.
