Deals can run the gamut from cruises to hotels, roundtrip flights, all-inclusive vacations, and reduced prices for theme parks.
To be eligible for these deals, you have to buy a membership. But the price of membership isn’t much—only $40 per year. If one were to take advantage of any of their deals, they would likely come out ahead.
And now they’ve just sweetened the deal.
New Travelzoo Perk: Free Lounge Access
Travelzoo announced a new perk last week – if your flight is delayed more than an hour, members and up to 3 traveling companions will have free access to one of 1600 airport lounges in over 500 airports worldwide.
-
Your flights all over the world are covered. Regardless of what airline you fly. Regardless of where you booked.
Just register your flight up to 24 hours before. It’s fast and easy, and you can add up to 3 family members/guests. -
We monitor your flight. If you are delayed by an hour or more, we’ll alert you with a text message. It will come with a QR code for the closest lounge.
-
Show your QR code when you arrive at the lounge. We partner with 1,600 lounges at over 500 airports.
What Lounges Are Included?
They’ve partnered with LoungeKey to give you access. As they say, you can access 1,600 lounges in over 500 airports worldwide. The lounges range from The Club to XpresSpa to Be Relax Spa to Plaza Premium Lounges to Minute Suites. They also have airline-affiliated lounges such as Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse and Air India Maharaja Lounge.
Pros and cons
Obviously, this deal isn’t for everyone. I’d guess that more than a handful of people reading this already have access to at least one lounge through one or more of their credit cards. But of course, not everyone does. And it’s relatively cost-effective for those who don’t have any other way to get into a lounge other than buying a day pass (which would cost way more than $40 for you and your travel mates, per lounge). Especially if you run into some bad luck with many flights delayed in the course of a year.
Also, not all lounges are the same. Although you know you’ll probably get some level of quality if you’re visiting, say, a Centurian lounge, that may not be the case with some of the places LoungeKey partners with. Case in point, the relatively new Plaza Premium Lounge at Terminal C of Orlando International Airport is going to be a bajillion times nicer than an XpresSpa, where the only snacks they may offer are water and tea. Then again, being in a quiet lounge space is still nicer than sitting at the gate.
I can hear veterans of airport lounges right now: “This is going to only add to the crowds in the affected lounges.” And I’d say you’re right. The fact that Travelzoo members “cashing in” on their lounge access won’t have any special privileges (that’s included in Travelzoo’s FAQ, under “What happens if the lounge is full?”) to get in doesn’t really make anyone feel better, I’m sure.
