Saving 50% On Our T-Mobile Bill Makes Us Like Them Even More Than Before

It was just about three years ago that we ditched AT&T for T-Mobile. It’s not been all roses since the reception in our house isn’t great, but it was good enough that we finally got rid of our home phone.

One of the things we were looking forward to when joining T-Mobile was their T-Mobile One plan, which gave us free 2G internet when traveling. We felt this was fine for our needs, but it was awfully slow.

That was until T-Mobile started to allow you to buy 3G data for $5 per day. Once I did that for Sharon, there was no going back. We had to pay for the extra data when traveling overseas.

So now that we’re stuck at home and no one’s traveling outside their house, not to mention going overseas, T-Mobile’s stepping up again to help their customers.

And I think it’s great!

I saw a post from Nick at Frequent Miler (If you don’t read his posts, you should) about how T-Mobile may be reducing bills by 50% if you ask.

Since we have T-Mobile and aren’t using our data allotment as both Sharon and I are spending much more time at home, I figured what could it hurt to ask. Based on Nick’s article, I fired off a DM on Twitter to @TMobileHelp.

If we were willing to cap our data to 3GB, we’d get 50% off our bill. I made sure this wouldn’t affect our contract.

Then came the legalese:

I can help with that! It is a discount of 50%, that will apply to voice lines, add-lines and add-on features for three billing cycles. – Examples of add-on features that the discount would apply to is Family Allowances, Family Mode or Name ID and Voicemail to Text. – Exception: The 50% discount does not apply to Stateside International, International roaming passes, Global Plus, Mobile Without Borders, EIP, P360 (Device Protection features), Netflix, Mobile Internet lines, or DIGIT/Wearable plans. All lines must switch to the 3GB capped data plan on all voice lines on the account. If you want more than the included 3GB capped data, you can upgrade to one of the optional data plans: Stay Connected Data 4GB Cap – $5 after discount Stay Connected Data 5GB Cap – $10 after discount Stay Connected Data 6GB Cap- $15 after discount NOTE: These optional data plans are not in addition to the 3GB capped data, they are individual capped data features. Mobile Internet lines are not included in the discount. The discount will automatically be applied for three billing cycles. The first discount will apply in full to the next bill. It will NOT be prorated based on the date it was added to the account. After the third billing cycle, the discount will drop off of the account and you will be billed their regular MRC, and the data will go back to their previous data features/plans. I had to connect my Twitter account to my T-Mobile account for him to finish.

Final Thoughts

So in a series of Tweets over 2 hours, I was able to save 50% off my T-Mobile bill for the next three months. I think that’s reasonable since I’m going to be connected to my internet at the house for most of the time for my data (and phone calls).

Some of the messages on Reddit and comments have been concerned about losing your current plan but I’m confident that based on my conversation that I’ll go back to my previous plan after the next three months. That’ll save us about $60 a month. Hopefully, by then we’ll be back to a semi-normal place.

I’ve not been able to see any advertisement for this besides Twitter or word of mouth. I’d recommend if you’re a T-Mobile customer and aren’t going to be using their data services over the next three months, drop them a message on Twitter. It just might be worth your while. It’s a discount for you doing your part to #stayhealthy #stayathome #washyourhands.
