Chick-fil-A Removing Some Items From Its Menu, Changing Others

by SharonKurheg

When Joe and I travel, we generally try to avoid chain restaurants. Instead, we look for local places because for us, it’s all about new experiences. And thanks to the most brilliant travel question ever, we’ve been able to eat in a bunch of amazing local restaurants.

However, there’s one time when we do tend to stick to chains, and that’s when we’re on a road trip. When we’re going to spend hours at a time being a driver or passenger, we’d just as soon get food from places where (A) we know we’ll be able to get something we can easily eat while in the car and (B) the food is predictable and we know what we’re going to get. You know, just in case.

Chain restaurants are really good at selling foods that are generally “car-friendly,” and there’s even this hack to make one particular meal even more so. So between knowing what you want, that what you want will taste the same on the road as it does at home, and that it’ll be relatively easy to eat while you’re on the road, it’s a win for everyone.

And then a restaurant decides to mess with things. To that end, Chick-fil-A has apparently been planning some changes to its menu.

It started in January when they removed sausage, the Sunflower Multigrain Bagel, side salad and decaf coffee from their menus in Arizona and Charlotte, NC, to test and see how things went.

I guess the testing phase is over and they’ve now narrowed down the list. Only two items, bagels and decaf hot coffee are apparently getting the ax in the coming months, according to Business Insider. They’re also making some updates to the size availability of certain items to streamline and consolidate and make room for new items.

This isn’t the first time Chick-fil-A has updated their menu. In fact, in the past 5 or so years alone, they’ve discontinued their chicken salad sandwich, multigrain oatmeal, spicy chicken biscuit, cinnamon clusters and coleslaw (the latter, which had been on the restaurant’s menu for almost 50 years, had such potential to cause an outrage that they printed the recipe online so that fans could make it at home).

Joe and I are not fans of Chick-fil-A, but we know lots of people are. For those of you who relied on their bagels and hot decaf in the morning, our condolences.

As long as bigotry is on the menu, I’ll continue to pass.
