I’ve read about the unicorn before but until last week, I’d never seen one.
In fact, I wasn’t the one to spot it in the wild. Sharon, who was sitting in the window seat, asked, “Why’s there a sports car waiting for our plane?”
There it was. A red Delta Porsche waiting to transport some lucky Diamond Elite or Delta 360 member to their connecting flight. Who was the lucky passenger (or the person who paid for the service)? We’ll never know.
Unless you pay for the service, there’s seemingly no rhyme or reason why someone is selected to get a Porsche ride to their connecting flight. Although this post, and the comments, explain how you can increase your chances if you’re a Delta high-flyer.
While it’s an unnecessary extravagance, we are still a culture that’s impressed by material things, such as when we stayed at the Park Hyatt Washington D.C. The hotel offered to drop us off at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in an ultra-lux sedan. That’s better than any Lyft I could have ordered and I imagine it was a nice change for the driver was more used to taking passengers to lobbyist offices or the Capitol than taking two tourists to a museum :-).
