Another day, another celebrity taking to social media to complain about an airline.
Not long ago, actor and former pro wrestler Dave Bautista posted several sharp words on his Instagram account about American Airlines, when they lost his luggage on his way to Hungary. He went there to begin filming Dune: Part II. I’ve been checking his Insta periodically and he still hasn’t said his bags had been returned to him yet.
Meanwhile, Matthew Lewis, who played Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter series of films, recently had his own problem with an airline – Air Canada. And so he’s saying they’re the worst airline in North America.
Confirmed. @AirCanada is the worst airline in North America. And that’s saying something.

Lewis recently took the airline to fly from Orlando to Toronto, where he was scheduled to be a guest at Fan Expo Canada. The airline apparently overbooked his flight, consequently forcing Matthew to fly in economy instead of the first class seat he had bought.
Kicking me out of first class to back of plane is what it is but doing it at the gate. Literally tearing my ticket up. No explanation other than “full flight”. Said if I wanted to sort it I should go to customer service. I asked where that was. “Toronto.” I’m in Orlando 🙃

Someone tweeted back to remind him that it’s common practice for airlines to oversell, and he replied:
Ya I know. I’ve been bumped before. I think it’s a ludicrous policy that we’ve inexplicably normalised but it is what it is. That said, that’s not my issue.. I wasn’t told til boarding, no apology, no ask if like to rebook, and if want a refund I have to call them.

Another of his followers wondered why the airline hadn’t mentioned something before he got to the gate:
No email. No offer to rebook. Literally tore my first class ticket up in front of me at the gate, gave me economy ticket and walked away. Not a single word. I had to call her back to ask umm why? Lol. Privileged problems, sure. But still wild 🤷🏻♂️

Anyway, Lewis still made it to Toronto, which is a lot better than those whose flights are canceled altogether. He just had to sit with the commoners, is all ;-). But he did say the family he sat next to was very nice.
😂nah fam, only saving grace was the nice family I was sitting next to.

Air Canada was apparently aware of the situation. Besides retweeting Lewis’ original post (which was kinda weird, if you ask me)
Even their socials team knows.

And they did ask him to DM them
Hi Matthew, we regret hearing this. Please send us a DM with further details of the issue, we'll see if we can help from here. https://t.co/Y5350m96oC /Max

Safely in Toronto, Lewis confirmed that the problem still hadn’t been fixed
Can confirm my issue was not sorted, if it’s any consolation.

It’s been over a week and Lewis hasn’t updated on the situation. I’m guessing they DID bring it to DM. I suppose the best Lewis can hope for is that Air Canada will refund him the difference between the seat he paid for and the seat he got. Who knows when/if they will, or if he’ll ever mention it on Twitter?
Of course, every commercial airline around the world has had problems in the post-pandemic world. Usually, it’s more delays and cancellations than being bumped from first class to economy, but still…
