Check Out All Of These Hotel Offers From AMEX

by joeheg

For a while, I wasn’t really checking our AMEX Offers. Unless I’d read about a particularly good one, I wasn’t going through them on all of our cards. I’ll admit it, I was a slacker.

After looking at all the restaurant offers that are currently available, I dug through my accounts to look at the travel offers. Boy, there are a bunch of them!

I don’t think I’ll be able to use them because most of our upcoming stays are paid for with points but if you’re going to have a paid hotel stay in the next few months, it would pay to check them out.

A few reminders:

  • Check all of your AMEX cards before enrolling in any offer. Different cards may have different offers for the same place. You only have one shot to enroll any of your cards for a specific offer.
  • Not all cards will receive an offer. In fact, you may not receive an offer on any of your cards. Thus is the fickle world of AMEX Offers.
  • If you receive similar yet different offers on two cards, you should be able to sign up for both. For instance, if you see an offer for cashback on one card and extra points on another, you should be eligible for both offers.
  • Only Membership Rewards earning cards will offer bonus points, all co-brand cards and cashback cards will offer statement credits. However, you may see cash-back offers on Membership Rewards cards.
  • Business cards will often show different offers than personal cards. Be sure to check both.

Las Vegas

There are several offers going for hotel rooms in Las Vegas. If you’re lucky, the money you get back from AMEX will cover your insane resort fees that these hotels are charging. Maybe that’s why they’re needing to put out these huge offers.

Final Thoughts

There is an opportunity cost when redeeming AMEX offers. Depending on which card shows the offer, you could receive up to 2 Membership Reward points, 1 co-brand program point or 2% back on those purchases. You can use a card that gives maximum rewards for hotels and earns 3 ThankYou points or 3 Ultimate Rewards per dollar.

However, with these AMEX Offers you’ll be getting a 20% rebate or 20 Membership Rewards per dollar for your purchases. That’s a way better return than a few extra points by using another card. I’d rather always have some extra cashback and if this is still one of the things AMEX is still willing to give cardholders, I better be taking advantage of it.

Thanks, I guess I wasn’t targeted for that one as it’s not on any of my accounts.
