Delta Airlines’ New Reality TV Show: Becoming A Flight Attendant

by SharonKurheg

If you thought reality TV was slowing down, you’d be way wrong. Move over Cops and Kardashians, Delta has joined the realm of reality TV with their new miniseries, Earning Our Wings.

The program follows the journeys of a handful of Delta’s flight attendants in training and its goal is to show how much it takes to become a flight attendant, a job that’s only offered to the very top notch candidates (last year 150,000 applicants applied for roughly 1,200 positions as Delta flight attendants).

“Earning and wearing the wings of Delta is something our flight attendants are proud of and passionate about, as they should be,” said Allison Ausband, Delta’s Senior Vice President – In-Flight Service. “After making it through the highly competitive and exhaustive selection process, they put all their previous experience and skills to the test during our flight attendant initial training.

“There’s no doubt we hire the best of the best, continued Ausband in Delta’s press release, “because the caliber of people wanting to work for our great airline is top-notch. They see that what makes Delta different is our people and the unique culture we share together, and they want to be part of that winning team.”

To give potential employees (as well as the rest of us) a better understanding of what it takes to join the best in the business, Delta has launched the Earning Our Wings mini-series, which was recorded at Delta’s training center in Atlanta. Viewers will be able to watch as new trainees learn, among other skills, how to put out fires, assist in water evacuations, complete airplane meal prep and do CPR. It’s the first time cameras have ever been behind the doors of the Delta training center.

As per Delta, new episodes of Earning Our Wings will be released to YouTube and the Delta News Hub each Monday and Thursday for the next 10 weeks. The episodes will chronicle the journey of a handful of new hires as they make their way through the 8-week training program. The first episode was released on October 23rd and includes trainees explaining why they wanted to join the travel industry by become flight attendants, as well as scenes of their orientation and tour of the training campus. Although perhaps not as jaw dropping as The Kardashians, it’s still a very interesting peek into the flight attendant training process.

If you have interest in becoming a flight attendant and the show reinforces that interest, you’re in luck, as Delta has recently announced they’re hiring over 1000 flight attendants for 2018! Click here to get started – good luck!

Tip of the hat and a big thank-you to Jonathan D., who gave us the heads up on this story (because it was his Delta training class that was featured and he’s even on camera a few times in the first episode! WTG JDet!)
