Hi everyone! Here are the articles we’ve recently seen, written by others, that we learned from, made us think or maybe made us chuckle a little bit. We hope you enjoy them!
- Companies have to tread a fine line when dealing with possibly divisive issues. Delta announced they will become neutral and not deal with any issue that may be controversial. Gary from View from the Wing points out that means they’ll have to decide which groups they deem to be too divisive to work with.
- Hmmmm, I wrote about how helpful, or not helpful, credit card concierges are and now The Points Guy writes about the same thing? I’m probably giving myself too much credit here but they have way more readers than I do and It’s interesting how their results were the same as mine.
- Doctor of Credit broke the story that American Express is doing away with the OPEN discount/bonus on their business cards. This bonus either provided 5% cash back or 3 Membership Rewards at select partners. I find this ironic because the rep I spoke to when getting a retention offer just two weeks ago hyped this as one reason I should keep my American Express Green Business card.
- Ben from One Mile at a Time wrote about how to redeem a Marriott Free Night certificate as he’d never done that on their website before. Finally, there’s something I’ve done that he hasn’t. I even got a stay at a Courtyard in Fort Lauderdale to show for my efforts.
-
I always book our rental cars using a card that gives primary rental insurance for damages. Here’s an example of how the Chase Sapphire Reserve’s coverage paid for hail storm damage to a rental car.
- Mommy Points shares her story about how a loyalty program can turn a small change of plans into a huge hassle. I’ve been there and it’s not fun. Not everyone understands common sense.
- I was able to see Nick from Frequent Miler’s presentation at Frequent Traveler University about how he planned to maximize points earning when buying a car. I thought that getting 6000 Starpoints for our down payment was good until I saw the deal he was able to figure out. His situation is special but it shows what you can do with a little work (and writing for a popular website)
- Rohan at Travel Codex pleads with the general public to stop filming airline employees over every minor squabble. I’d put this in the category of “being a good customer” but everyone wants their shot at fame, or a nice payment.
- Would you spend two hours at a time share presentation to save $1800 on a Hawaii vacation? With points options, I’m still not sure it’s worth it.
- Ed from Pizza in Motion points out that people staying at the Four Seasons in Disney World now have access to Extra Magic Hours, the same at Disney Resort guests. I’ve visited the Four Seasons resort and it’s beautiful (I even went there for my birthday this year to watch the fireworks.). This is one more reason to stay here instead of at a Disney hotel.
