Southwest, in its continued showing of Transfarency®, has a new offering for a limited time – “Get through the TSA Precheck® line in 10 minutes at Oakland or Southwest® will give you 2,5000 Rapid Rewards® bonus points.” Pretty cool, huh?
Southwest is in the midst of increasing its presence in California and Oakland (OAK) is one of the airports in the state that Southwest flies to. Of note, OAK’s Terminal 2 is 100% Southwest, so it does make it a lot easier to implement the trial.
According to Andrew Watterson, Southwest’s Chief Revenue Offer, if a passenger feels (s)he’s waited in the PreCheck line for longer than 10 minutes, (s)he should approach a Southwest supervisor and ask for a 2,500 voucher. “No proof of an extended wait is required,” said Watterson.
The promotion is part of a plan to get passengers back on short-haul flights, Watterson told TravelSkills in an interview. “After 9/11, long- and medium-haul travel came back, but short-haul travel has never fully recovered. With PreCheck, ride sharing and other advances, the pain points of business travel are not what they used to be. We want to draw attention to that by making this guarantee,” he said.
So if you happen to be flying on Southwest out of Oakland International Airport and have Pre-Check, watch your time – if you’re there for 11 minutes or more, Southwest could owe you 2,500 Rapid Rewards points (the value of that is about $38).
The promotion continues through June 29, 2018.
