If You’ve Been Enjoying Pandora Plus From The T-Mobile Offer, The Free Ride’s Coming To An End

by joeheg

We like many things about T-Mobile. When we switched from AT&T, the immediate benefit was a less expensive cell phone bill and better coverage in our house. There were other benefits, like free data when we traveled internationally which we finally were able to try out on our trip to London.

Besides just being a telecommunications provider, T-Mobile makes a decent effort to try to get customers engaged with the brand. One of the biggest pieces of that puzzle is T-Mobile Tuesday. Every week, on Tuesday, they give special perks to customers. You have to sign up that day and the offers usually are good until the end of the week.

They often have specials for Fuel Rewards and Dunkin Donuts but last August they had one of their biggest promotions and if you took advantage of it, time’s almost up.

That was the offer. A free year of Pandora Plus. It’s only the mid-grade Pandora membership but it was free and it meant no more ads. Of course, I signed up. I found that I did use Pandora more than I used to, even if I still paid for a Spotify subscription. Pandora Plus doesn’t have offline listening and you still can’t pick out songs or albums. But if I was listening for a long time I found Pandora did a better job of mixing up the music than Spotify did.

I had almost totally forgotten that I received the membership for free. I guess I was hoping T-Mobile would offer another promo this year. Well, they are but it’s not nearly as good as last year’s.

For this year’s offer, I’d have to change to a paid subscription and I’d get the first month for free. If you sign up for the offer, it will auto-renew monthly at the $4.99 fee.

Sure thing, when I logged into my account, I saw that my free subscription ends in less than a week.

Final Thoughts

While I’ve enjoyed my free year with Pandora Plus, I’m not going to renew for $4.99 a month. I find Spotify to be a better service but the biggest factor in my decision is the ability to stream SiriusXM on my phone and computer for free with the subscription I pay for in my car.

If you’re going to let the Pandora Plus subscription lapse, I don’t think you have to do anything. Since you didn’t have to put any payment information when signing up,  there’s no way to charge you. I’m assuming you’ll just revert back to a free subscription with limited skips and no replays.

For me, that’s fine for now.
