Happy Wednesday to all of our travel friends, both near and far! Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, as well, so we’re passing them along.
- Shawn at Miles To Memories wrote about the rollout of Uber’s new RideCheck safety system. I’m glad they’re going to do it but dang, I wish they could fix all their other problems like
** Drivers who claim vomit fraud
** Drivers who try to get you to cancel a ride
** Drivers who take a longer route than instructed
** The most despicable Uber/Lyft scam of all - Happy news for those visiting Central Florida – the Visitor Toll Pass pilot, which allowed you to pay lower rates to go through electronic tolls, was supposed to end on August 31st. The program has now been extended into next summer!
- In my past career as an occupational therapist, I sometimes worked with people who had developmental disabilities, so it always warms my heart when I see programs that help people become more independent and productive members of society, like the cool thing this Courtyard By Marriott is doing (I realize the article is a couple of years old, but it’s new to me and the program is still in existence, so…). I think my favorite is this hotel in Germany, which is run by people with disabilities.
- Ed from Pizza In Motion posted a (rather gross) story about someone’s blister that popped on the plane, which splashed blood on her fellow passengers. Ew. I wonder if that little incident will make it to this website? Certainly seems like it would fit in, no?
- Way to go, Delta! It made the Fortune Top 100 Best Companies To Work For for the 3rd year in a row!
- Jennifer on Flyertalk mused about why suicide is such a problem in the TSA. I think at least some of the reasons were included between the lines of this post. Overall, I don’t think it’s a very “happy” job.
- We saw this post about how to get a free room upgrade and if the timing works out, sure, give it a shot. If that doesn’t work, you may want to consider this method, too.
- Finally, Rene’s Points wrote about how a traveler was thrown into jail because her passport was damaged. Wow, and I thought this guy had it bad after what happened to his passport!
