World’s First Chocolate Cruise Set To Sail In 2020

by SharonKurheg

In recent years there have been lots and LOTS of themed cruises. Downton Abbey cruises, Harry Potter cruises, nude cruises, singles cruises, music genre cruises, you name it. But I bet this upcoming themed cruise is going to make your mouth water, because the theme is CHOCOLATE!

Italy’s Eurochocolate (their website is in Italian – here’s the English translation), which is commonly known as the world’s largest international chocolate festival, is teaming with the country’s Costa Cruises to offer an eight-day trip totally devoted to the yummy treat.

The Mediterranean cruise will depart from the city of Civitavecchia on April 16, 2020, and is scheduled to make stops in Genoa, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Malta, and Catania.

Up to 3,780 passengers will start their cruise with a welcome kit featuring “delicious gifts and chocolate-themed gadgets,” as per Costa. Other cruise-exclusive activities include masterclasses from chocolate artisans such as Guido Gobino, Enric Rovira, and Pierpaolo Ruta, workshops run by expert chocolatiers, tastings featuring “the finest types of chocolate combined with wine, grappas, and spirits,” and, “an exclusive and engaging show cooking with the famous food blogger Sonia Peronaci of Giallo Zafferano.”

To be able to participate in the chocolate-themed events, guests must purchase a special package for 120 euros (as of this writing, about $134) along with booking a basic or all-inclusive cabin.

Besides all the chocolate stuff guests will encounter on the ship, each destination will also feature its own chocolatey excursions, including a stop at the Museu de la Xocolata (Chocolate Museum) in Barcelona.

In short, you will have thought you’ve died and gone to chocolate heaven.

More information, including how/where to book, can be found on Costa’s website.
