When Joe went to NY for a business trip for 2 weeks a while back, I went up and stayed with him for a few days in the middle of the trip, so we could be together during the time when he had a few days off in the middle of a 4 or 5-day visit.
We planned my arrival at JFK so Joe could come to pick me up after his shift. That way he could show me where the shuttle was for his hotel, for when I wanted to go into the city [sorry…locals call Manhattan “the city”] by myself during a couple of days he was working during my visit. But while we were already at JFK, he suggested we visit the TWA hotel. We already had an upcoming reservation there, and Joe had already explored it the day before, but I never had and he knew I was really looking forward to seeing it in person.
Neither of us had eaten dinner, so we agreed to eat at the TWA Hotel’s one sit-down restaurant, Paris Café. While we were eating, I noticed something, shall I call it, interestingly disturbing?
The TWA Hotel is comprised of 3 buildings – the main building is the original, iconic one that was built in 1962. And the hotel itself is 2 towers on either side of the original building.
Welp, Paris Café is in the original building and looks over one of the towers. And if you get a window seat, like we did, these are some of the views you might get after sunset…
Because the two buildings are so close together, it’s REALLY easy to see what’s going on in a bunch of the rooms.
Might be housekeeping doing its thing, or a couple having a discussion…
It could be people who realize there’s something just beyond their window
Or people who… don’t (as a guy takes off his clothes)
We also saw a woman who had taken off her dress, leaving herself only in her slip, and then realized there was a button to lower the shades. We didn’t take a picture of that. Nor, thankfully, did we see anyone in the midst of any bow-chicka-bow-bow action, but I bet it happens here and there, all for the restaurant to see.
So yeah…if you stay at the TWA hotel and have a tower room that faces the original building, make sure you don’t keep your shades open. Definitely close them as soon as it gets dark out.

I noticed that, too. Standing from the departure level of the JetBlue terminal, you can clearly see the rooms without any binoculars or camera. Just look. Even if the rooms have the lights off, you can clearly see the white beds. If the lights are on, you can see all the way to the opposite wall.
You can see inside when it is overcast but day time. I saw it at 4 pm in early December. Sunset is about 4:40 pm in NY and the sky is not completely black until about 5 pm.
This just makes me think about the pilot arrested for being naked at his hotel room window.
No kidding. I couldn’t believe what we could see one night last month when we walked out of the hotel and headed to the Connie for a drink. Unbelievable. You can look straight into the hotel rooms. My spouse said people might be booking those rooms on purpose, knowing everything was visible & making sure to give the gawkers a show. Boy did they ever. Wowzer. Then we saw two guys trying to film it with cameras. Buy a drink and the show is complimentary.
My ex fiance and I lived right across from the Four Seasons Hotel on Doheny Dr in Beverley Hills.
I hate to admit it but after enough Pink Cuvee Cliqout, we didn’t mind putting on a “show” for the 5 star hotel balcony gawkers.
What the heck, why not?

I stayed at the TWA Hotel in February 2023 and noticed this immediately when my partner and I were eating. In fact, I pointed it out to her. Afterward, when we were in the room, and not really caring what kind of a show I put on, I climbed into bed and started reading. My partner took a long time closing those amazing blinds to viewers.
