Happy Sunday to all of our travel friends, both near and far, and a Happy Easter to those who are celebrating today. Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, as well, so we’re passing them along.
- With all of the unhappy stories around, it’s hard to stay positive. On Live and Let’s Fly, Matthew shared a story about a teenager who’s putting his pilot’s license to good use, flying much-needed supplies to rural hospitals.
- If things were normal, we’d all be getting ready for the yearly Daily Getaways promotion. We picked up tickets to Sea World in 2019, and were planning on doing the same this year. It’s no surprise that the promotion has been postponed. Loyalty Lobby reports that it will now happen “sometime this fall.”
- One of the perks of having a premium credit card is access to a “concierge.” I’ve written about what I think these services are worth based on my experiences. Lee from Bald Thoughts took this challenge to another level when he pitted the services against one another to help him find a store that had toilet paper.
- When you’re staying home, there are many services you don’t use. These companies are offering discounts or extensions like CLEAR and SiriusXM. There’s something else you’re not using when staying at home, your car. Auto insurance companies have seen a decrease in the number of claims (fewer vehicles on the road = fewer accidents) and some are giving discounts back to their customers. Doctor of Credit has an ongoing post with what companies are giving back money. If you don’t see your company listed, look in the comments to see if someone has already checked.
- Southwest Airlines’ change and cancellation policies have always been better than the other airlines. Miles to Memories reports that they’ve temporarily improved their already generous terms for flight changes. If you’re flying before June 6th, you can change your flight to another one +/- 14 days from your original flight for free. You don’t even have to pay the difference in price for the ticket.
- Miles for Family looks at changes in spending patterns since most people are not leaving their homes except when it’s deemed essential. But are you spending more or less, now that you’re staying home? The answer might not be as obvious as you’d think.
- When travel and the economy started to slow down, I said that banks would need to start giving retention offers to keep customers. God Save the Points reports that American Express is now giving out Membership Rewards points or statement credits to people for keeping their premium cards, like the Platinum or Gold cards.
- One of the ways companies are trying to keep people engaged is to release their secret recipes. Disney has released how to make their Churros at home and they also released how to make a Dole Whip, but you’ve been able to buy that one at the store for a while if you wanted. Waffle House sold batches of their waffle mix, which sold out in 4 hours. Not to be outdone, DoubleTree released the recipe for its famous chocolate chip cookies. We have all of the ingredients at home, so we’re looking to baking up a batch this week.
