I Thought I Forgot To Cancel Our Flight Because Of An Email Reminder

by joeheg

It was an afternoon like every other one when I heard the email alert on my phone. I saw the title “Online Check-In Reminder” and I started to panic. Did I forget to cancel one of our flights? I was sure I asked for refunds of our flights and cancelled the hotels I had booked. But there it was.

My first feeling was sad because I had forgotten this was the week we were supposed to be in New York City and New Orleans. As I type this, we were supposed to be sitting in a Broadway theater. Tomorrow we were headed for New Orleans. That’s the flight I was getting a reminder for.

Obviously, we’re not going.

This was the first flight we changed as the New Orleans portion of the trip was the first to get postponed. This was early on and I was able to get Delta to give me a one time waiver and change from flying to New Orleans to flying to Orlando.

Delta knew of the change. TripIt also saw the email and changed my itinenary. However there is one more place that tracks my flights. AwardWallet.

I don’t utilize this service from AwardWallet, but they gather information on my active reservations when they download my account balances. So our flight to New York was still showing up in their systems and they were reminding me to check-in. šŸ™

And seeing that email put me back into the canceled trip blues for a little while.

It was a reminder for me to log in and zero out the rest of that trip. No need to get emails reminding me about other canceled flights for the rest of the week. I’d suggest you do the same and go and clear out your Apple calendar or Google Calendar while you’re at it.
