Happy Sunday to all of our travel friends, both near and far. Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, as well, so we’re passing them along.
- If there’s any silver lining from what’s going on, it’s that we’ve been treated to some amazing images of the world we live in. We’re gotten to see what most of Walt Disney World Resort looks like without people (from 1500 feet), which hopefully we will never see again. Another image we’ll probably never witness is the grounding of so many aircraft. Airports are becoming large parking lots and one blogger traveled around documenting these locations and the geometric beauty of all the planes parked next to one another. Check out his post to see some of these once in a lifetime images.
- One question in the mind of people who traveled using points and miles is if companies will still want our business. Are we still valuable customers or will those who pay cash be the desirable ones?
- The timeline of Florida’s response to the coronavirus is complicated. Local businesses shut before governments put stay at home orders in place, with the state being one of the last ones to issue a mandate. With such a haphazard approach, people are curious about why there are apparently fewer cases in Florida than in other states with similar populations. Here’s a story from the Orlando Sentinel that proposes several explanations for why this happened and if Florida was smart or just lucky.
- We will not know what changes to the travel industry that will remain, but it’s a sure bet that things won’t be the same. One company that’s already shifting to the new normal is Airbnb, who’s laying off 25% of their workforce. While the company is making changes, what about the hosts who used the service to rent out their properties? There’s no question that no one was happy about the fees that Airbnb charged people on both sides of the transaction (hosts and renters) except Airbnb itself. With people being more price-conscious, could this slowdown will allow renters to move to a less expensive platform?
