Happy Wednesday to all of our travel friends, both near and far. Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, as well, so we’re passing them along.
- We wrote about how Delta had disabled their customer services via Twitter and Facebook. Rene’s Points reached out to their Delta contacts and found out that the changes are only temporary. No word when the Social Media teams will come back, but for the time being, the only way to contact Delta is through the chat function of their app or website.
- One of the possible victims of coronavirus was buffets everywhere. Restaurant chains like Golden Corral and Sweet Tomatoes have already closed, admitting their concept no longer is feasible in this environment. Not everyone is willing to give up on the idea, as the Riu Hotels have reopened with their buffets in operation. The Wynn hotel is going to be the first hotel in Las Vegas to reopen its buffet. If you’re honest, this isn’t a buffet as we remember. It’s more of an all you can eat in a time period from a set menu. I can’t see any old school buffets opening any time soon. They’re either going to be like this service model or a buffeteria where you walk through the food line and get served your food.
- We’re always amused when we read about “special” homes and B&Bs that were used in movies or TV. We’re written about the houses used in The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Steel Magnolia, which are now a hotel and a B&B, respectively. Themed hotels and B&Bs are fun too – we’re written about ones for Harry Potter, Mickey Mouse and, for a short time, Stranger Things. Well, it looks like some places are kicking it up a notch. If you’re a fan of Star Wars or Harry Potter, have I found places for you!
- Companies have put new protocols to show that they are safe. Themeparks, ride-sharing services and casinos have stressed how the use of face masks should make you feel protected from coronavirus. Well, it turns out that Las Vegas only cares if employees are wearing masks. Guests are only “encouraged” to use masks but who’s to keep visitors from losing money, mask or no mask.
- Speaking of masks, the airlines tried to drop some truth and threatened to add passengers to the “do not fly” list if they’re caught not wearing masks when onboard. While this seems to currently be a hollow threat, I’d like to see them institute such measures against passengers as it could encourage those of us following the rules to travel sooner.
