You Guys! The ‘Steel Magnolias’ House is a B&B! (and the Shelby Room is Amazing!)

by SharonKurheg

Are you a fan of Steel Magnolia? Are you a really big fan? Because if you are, the centerpiece of the film, the Steel Magnolia House, located in Natchitoches, Louisiana, is a bed and breakfast, and they have a room all ready for you!

If you’re a diehard fan and REALLY want to get immersed, now’s your opportunity to stay in the home where the Eatenton family lived in the film. The gorgeous home from the movie has functioned as a bed and breakfast known as Steel Magnolia House since 2014.

The 5,900-square-foot historic brick house where the beloved movie was filmed was built before the Civil War (sometime in the 1830s), and sits along the Cane River. It’s said the building was used as a hospital during the civil war and there are rumors that it played a part in the Underground Railroad. It was converted to a bed and breakfast in 2003 but the interior and exterior have all been carefully preserved since filming the Steel Magnolias movie – the wallpaper is the same, the original wood floors are still intact, the furniture hasn’t been moved – it all still looks just like the movie!

Whether you’re considering a romantic getaway, a girls’ weekend trip, or you’re just a fangirl/boy who wants to sit on the porch, sip sweet tea and gossip with friends, Steel Magnolia House features five guest rooms that are all named after the memorable characters from the movie: Annelle, Clairee, Jackson, Ouiser and Shelby. There’s lots of “Steel Magnolias” memorabilia on hand to enjoy, including costume sketches and behind-the-scenes photos.
